This is a great site, but i'm just curious why one of the mods here always closes the most innocent threads all the time, often telling members to 'go search'.

I understand why a post asking about drifting an evo would be closed, but why one asking about manual/auto BC's, or one asking advice on buying a TBE from e-bay

Just seems a bit strange to me, as if this site has some kind of limit on how many posts can be contributed.

don't wanna cause waves, just wondering.

cheers

No, it creates clutter and makes searching useless when there are 100 threads with some part of the answer, rather than 10 threads that have good information.

We close threads that are commonly asked, easy to search and read.

I think the mods want to discourage the behavior of starting a new thread every time a member has a question. These forums are created with the intention of exchanging insights and experiences, and all too often, people abuse them so they don't have to figure anything out for themselves(give a man a fish vs teach a man to fish).

In most cases, other members have already discussed any issues with the car, modding, etc, so searching can help you find the answers you need. I am sure they wont close a thread that is both appropriate and original.

This. Plus you can always bump an old thread if you've still got questions. There may be new information that can be incorporated into the old thread

things change...including best way to mod (cams, boost controllers, turbos, etc) often threads that are 3498734593745 pages long skew results a bit and make it hard to find answers. i agree there are some useless threads but often things are closed for no good reason and most mods wont return PM's giving a reason. if the fourm was made to unite people with similar interest let people run it that have simliar interests.

I won't close a thread unless I have a logical reason for it

and if challenged and I feel I'm wrong I'll reopen it

also it depends on the direction of the thread if ten members say this is old news and search I'm not going to leave it open vs a thread that member contribute to

I used to wonder this too untill i started visiting the site alot more often and searching for useful information and there becomes so much redundant questions that people simply stop answering it anymore. Now i can read a title and instantly tell if its a keeper or closing soon9/10 times
