Help me put this together...because some people just dont get it...
-Things like how many days after receiving payment should a seller ship an item and provide shipping info.
- When should a seller ship an item
-If a buyer tells the seller he wants an item, how long should he/she hold before selling if payment wasnt received.
etc, etc
...cause it seems like everyone wants to hurry up and get paid for their items,BUT once they get your money they put you on the back burner.
This is not vendor related... but you can add that too.

Ideally, 3 days would be nice, but I think what is more important is communication.
Sometimes I ship stuff out the next day, other times the next week, but as long as the buyer knows what to expect in terms of shipping, all is good.
My biggest pet peeve is the lack of a tracking number

In all the years that I have been tinkering with cars there seems to be a reoccurring pattern. There is such a thing as a critical part and then there is a thing that is less critical.
When you are selling a part (does not matter what it is) the buyer expects you to have it available for shipping the second he pays. Only exception would be a national holiday when shipping services are either busy or people involved in trade are busy. That also implies that seller is obligated to fulfill his side of the transaction and ship the item out in a reasonable manner.
Unfortunately many shippers have a tendency to miscalculate things like shipping costs or availability of boxes to ship their parts in or difficulty of shipping bulky items. Buyer on the other hand expects seller to have done his homework and be prepared. Good example: lets say I buy a set of coilovers. Spring+strut weighs about 20 lbs x4 =80lbs and shipping cost is probably in neighborhood of $100. More often than not private sellers do not have a box to put each strut in so they pile all of them into one box and head to a shipping place. There they discover that a big box weighing 80lbs costs $200 to ship and buyer already paid $100... so they head back to the drawing board and try to find a cheaper way to ship the item. Meanwhile time is ticking and item is still not shipped.
After other snafoos item arrives in a box 3 weeks after it was ordered whereby if purchased from online store item would have been delivered in less than 7 business days.
Things like that always prevented me from buying from other people. When I am buying a car part I probably have a really bad need for it like right now or else I need to keep renting a vehicle to get to work. For obvious reasons I would be very much insisting that seller ships it out asap.
I have also been on the other side of the transaction when I was parting out my car and shipping parts all over the states. I very quickly found out how difficult it was to ship parts that would not fit in a 1ftx1ftx1ft box that ups/fedex is used to. It would cost like $100-200 to ship anything like a bumper or a spoiler or a hood or a trunk while the part cost less than shipping. I did use greyhound shipping service on a few occasions and I very painfully found out that it was not easy delivering item to greyhound in my car that barely fit me inside.
Like others pointed out communication is #1 key. Ideally you want to purchase from online stores because those guys usually have everything under control. You need rims? Voila they are shipped in 4 separate perfectly packaged boxes and are at your door step in 3 days. You want them with tires? Voila they come in slightly bigger boxes and are already balanced and good to go. You want a cat back exhaust? It is delivered in appropriate box etc etc.
Working with private buyers and sellers especially when they are far apart is obviously hard and there is risk involved and when it comes down to it you never know if part that is being shipped to you arrives in one piece or does not fit or is broken and you have been scammed.
When it comes down to it I think the following pretty much sums up a perfect transaction.
Payment sent
Confirmation email sent out
Confirmation email with shipping/tracking info is sent out
Item delivered
It is simple and effective.

To me, it's all about:
1) Honesty.
2) Communication.
3) Managing expectations.
4) Handle a transaction the way you would want someone else handling a transaction with you.
I've purchased and sold a bunch of stuff on this forum. Ranging from selling my Evo IX down to buying a shift knob. I've been lucky enough to receive 100% positive feedback, but I think it has something to do with me following these 4 simple rules.

the reality is we cannot enforce rules for every little thing
buying things privately has issues/consequences which are out of our reach sometimes
relying on the seller's feedback is the best thing you can do
