make the ignore user feature better

I wish it was like they never existed at all. As it is now I see a bar and that "show post" link taunting me. Then I click the stupid link to be reminded (yet again) why that person is on ignore.

I want the option to mega hella 3rd grade style ignore (ie. the post doesn't even show up in the forum list nor in the middle of the thread.

Unfortunately the ignore functionality is hard coded into vBulletin, and I don't know of any hacks that do as you describe. So there's no way to change it.

And I completely sympathize - on sites where I'm not a moderator (and thus have no choice but to read everybody's posts ), I wish the ignore function made them "go away".

well I can fix the PHP for you

There has to be logic in there to make the message there, but collapsed. Easy enough to change it to say "don't even show this message".

Looks like there's some PHP changes you can make to the postbit_ignore template, basically making it blank.

Unfortunately I think that still doesn't completely hide the ignored user from your sight.

There's no such thing as free speech in this world. Only the illusion.

Not necessarily true, depends on how good your lawyer is and how much money you can throw at a problem.

Have you considered the FfvB add-on for Firefox?

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7023

You can ignore users, threads, or even keywords and they simply disappear.

I think the idea of blocking a user is so silly. Who can make someone so upset that they have to block someone else s posts? Self censorship is silly and childish and is like admitting defeat. Go a pair and be able to take in all information, even if it annoys you it may help you. If you block some users, you will become ultra sensitive and probably overuse the feature and continue to block ANYTHING that annoys you. Pretty soon you will be devoid of info.
