Closing threads

I don't know how many times I search for something, and I look at the title and think sweet I'll find my answer there. Then I open it up to find that the only responses are search its been cover a million times. Well I did search and guess what it brings up this thread so I'm like wtf is that all about.

I also just recently had a thread closed in the tirerack section. I wanted to start a good thread on what tire rim combo people are using. Didn't see one thread where everybody posted up there setup. Then dude says look in show in shine. wtf? It's tires, and rims where not talkn 20" dubs.

Don't get me wrong I like using this site for the information available. At least add a link to something related to the thread you are closing moderators.

It does not take much to find information on this site.

I'm going to guess that the member that suggested show n' shine was being sarcastic. Not that I support that but when a member posts a thread such as yours when there is ample information it's frustrating.

You should browse through the motor sports, parts/service/tuning review, and wheel and tire sections.

I closed your thread. However, it was at the request of another established member that reported the post. So, clearly I was not the only one that thinks you should search around.

We encourage new members to ask questions. At the same time we encourage you to search and at least simply your question beyond such an open ended field.

Some information to justify closing your thread (off the top of my head):

Currently the most popular street tire for auto-x and daily driving applications would be the Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs. Prior to that would probably be Falken Azeni RT-615's. Both are a summer only high performance tire.

Winters that yield snow will yield a lot of Blizzak recommendations. As they are one of the best snow tires money can buy. If snow isn't a huge issue a decent all season tire will do. Whatever you do, do not run stock Advans in temperatures below 40 degrees.

For rally and track suggestions you definitely need to poke around in the motor sports area. They will be best suited to help you and you'll find the most information there.

Hope that helps.

God forbid you have to search for more than 10 minutes trying to find what you are looking for. Sometimes I have searched for 3 days trying to find information in ECUFlash forum for things I need.

You want life handed to you on a silver platter or something? Maybe some spoon feeding? I can garantee you will find this on almost any other site out there.

No need for the spoon feeding comment. Just thought a thread on what tire/rim setup people where running , in the tire, and rim section would be a good idea. Guess not.

I've never ran into so many closed threads on any of the other forums I've been on.

We do our best to keep relevant information available and filter out useless and duplicate information.

Honestly, I take the closed threads comment as a compliment. It shows that threads don't go unnoticed. The amount of content on this site is unbelievable. If you ever compared the amount of active threads to closed threads; I'd be willing to guess it's 90:1. If not even larger.

Yes you guys are apparently doing a good job. Is there anyway of deleting the thread completely so that when you search you don't find dead end threads.

I admit I suck at the internet. That was my feeble attempt at starting a useful thread.

Epic fail

Yes, we do try to delete/move closed threads to the trash area so they do not show up in a search.

Have you guys ever considered allowing users to close a thread they've started, or even delete it on their own. Would really save you some time. I find this especially useful in the classified section, after the OP has sold their items. This should help remove some clutter.

We unfortunately couldn't allow that because it would most certainly be misused and abused by some folks.

But, all members can report their post or their thread and ask the moderators to close it. Look for the little red/white triangle in the lower left of a post right below your online/offline status (it looks like a little road sign). That's the "report post" button. All you have to do is click that and ask for a post to be deleted, a thread to be closed, report someone breaking the rules, etc, etc.

We love it when members do their part to report posts. We can't cover every section and every thread, so the members help us out tremendously when they report posts
