For cluttered desktops try making auto-hide task bars. Dunno how XP is...didn't like the OS enough to stick with it, but it's nice to have a fast, easily accessible, single-click option for getting to frequently used files and programs. I'm trying to get a completely icon-free desktop. It's easier than one would think.
Hide icons when desktop is viewed as a web page? Hell yes!

i tried what you said yellow_lancer and looks lik eyou made a mistake or maybe your using home edition which might be different than Pro (which i am using). here's what mine looks like
anthony... i use pro also... well after u make the schedule... and u click okay.... then u will see something that says edit right next to add and remove...then on the top it should have a schedule tab....look for advanced....click on the repeat task... then type in whenever u want it to refresh... for example... 1 min... 2 min...... hope this helps
