E-mail

In the scope of this board, I'm relatively new and I don't know if there ever was a site based e-mail address. I know that I would be extremely excited to get an e-mail address with @evolutionm.net following my username.

I believe Mark has one, but I didn't know if any had ever thought of trying it out or expanding it further than it is now (if there is one). Would you take that into consideration for the future?

Thanks for listening,
Stephen

I would definitely switch over. I love EvoM and getting my email here would simplify things. I'm not sure about server space and such, but I think it is something a lot of members would use.

Fee's are bad for those of us who are broke, I'd say for those with a certain number of posts? Or perhaps (space willing) active evolved members? Active=visits at least every other day.

I wouldn't be opposed to a small fee. But something like $15-20 a year rather than $60.

Well, I'm just broke, so I guess I'm the only one opposed to it. But, $15 a year is extremely reasonable for both us and Mark. Lets see.....$15 * 500 (members)= $7500. That's not bad for an e-mail service if you're Mark. He does have the final say though.

Yes, I think something like $12 - $15 a year is quite fair to all. $1 is a pretty darn good deal, and as Tanner points out, it is a great source of revenue.

What do you think, Mark?

If I can set this up and support it in the future, I'll make sure to offer it. I believe it will be doable, but I'll need to find a way to secure some account names for future use as well.

Any ideas what Hotmail or Yahoo does? They don't seem to have any problems with usernames (at least that I know of). Perhaps give the option to new members if they want an e-mail address. Thus the e-mail address would be (evolutionm.net user name)@evolutionm.net. Do you think that'd work?

I've found a few scripts that could automate something like this, but they appear to be very load intensive and missing a bunch of features that I would need for myself.

We're in the process of moving to our new servers at a new NOC, upgrading the forums & registry, and fixing the rest of the site to work with the new setup. Once that's complete, I'll start doing some more research on the email thing and more

Unfortunately, we have to wait for the cage to be completed before the servers can go in, so it'll take a bit of time

I'd do the upgrades on this server to save time, but she might explode!

Yes, by all means, please avoid blowing up EvoM. You'd have ten thousand people suffering from withdrawl.
