Used Tires?

I'm going to be attending several driving schools and drifting events in the next few months. Sense I suck as a driver, I'd like to find a cheap source for tires.

Does anybody know where I can find used tires in DFW?

Also, please contact me if you have used Advans your are about to replace. I can probably offer a better deal than the tire store.

I did a quick search in google: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...+lewisville+tx

The first choice (Local Results for used tires near Lewisville, TX) provides what you need. I called a few of the shops and the price range for 17" tires is $10 - $25 depending upon the tread depth.

I totally realize used tires probably suck, but for doing driver training or drifting that shouldn't be the issue. I corded a pair of nearly new GoodYears in the course of 4 autocrosses and 1 driving school. Considering that one of those tires costs more than two full sets of used tires I think it sort of makes sense to buy used tires. when it comes time to compete I still have a set of good high performance tires. But right now my focus is learning how to control the car so the good tires can actually make a difference for me.

Your question brings up another one I've been wondering about: what kinds of tires last longest under the strain of a DE?

Harder componds probably last longer. The Advans and R compound tires use pretty soft rubber. That is among the reasons why they are so good. Tires that last a long time probably won't stick like your Advans.

I don't really think that should be an issue for DE though. The reason i believe this is b/c some people will rent cars (Avis, Hertz, etc) and drive them in autocross schools. I'm pretty confident the EVO w/ a set of crappy used tires will handle as well as a rented Ford Focus. Either way you go (rent or crappy tires) you will learn how to handle your car better so the expensive tires can actually help improve your times.
