DRIVING DIRECTION TIPS
For you guys going to the track for the first time, there's some confusing stuff about getting there.
The track is on South County Road 48. If you're driving south down 288 from Beltway 8 you will first encounter County Road 48. That's the not the one you want. S CR 48 is waaay past that, almost at Angleton. The signs will trip you out because the roads continue to count up (or down?) from CR 48, so you think you've passed where you need to turn. But then the CR numbers start counting back down (or up?) until you get to S CR 48.
Basically, S CR 48 is one exit north of where FM 521 intersects 288. That same intersection is where Business 288 forks off from 288.
Also: the track is not right on 288, as some people believe. If you're driving south on 288, when you get to S CR 48 you have to make a left onto S CR 48. Then you go down and within a mile the gate is on your left. The track and associated buildings are very far from the road, so you probably won't even see them until you go through the gate.
FOOD TIPS
The track is in the middle of nowhere. Seriously. You'll see.
There's a Chevron or something one exit down that I found had palatable taco-ish things.
If you drive about 5 miles down Business 288 into Angleton, there's an Arby's and some other chain-ish stuff.
Driving from Houston, it will be on the left side, keep a look out for the fluorescent yellow awnings that are over the pits. That's what I do. Yes, brown bag it, there was a Mom and Pop outfit with a mobile Bar-B-Que that came both day for the Porsche Event, but I don't want any Montezuma's revenge ruining my weekend.

I decided to skip Sunday because of my inability to keep the car pointed straight in the rain on Saturday (3 spins!). Prior to this weekend I'd done like 8 DEs and had over 1000 track miles on my car, and in all that time I'd only spun once.
Given that all three spins were right-handers I was suspecting that my left-rear tire was a contributing factor. It was formerly my right front and had basically no tread. And then when I went to look at it today the right-rear was flat. I don't think I can lay all the blame for my spinning on a bad tire, but it certainly didn't help. The spins all came without warning; I was turning and then the car was looping. I didn't want to risk doing it right in front of another car.
Still, though, I learned some stuff Saturday. I actually learned to comfortable when the car was spinning. By the 3rd spin I was actually holding off on putting "both feet in" until the car had spun around to a trajectory I liked, so that I wouldn't come to a dead stop right in the middle of the track.
I suspect that's my last track day for a while. I calculcated the "real cost" of track days to be a minimum of $800 (when including wear and tear on consumable parts), and that could be over $1000 when including lodging and stuff for out-of-town trips.
I might have to go back to autocross for a while. Actually, I want me some rallycross. Gonna have to look around.
That great that you guys had fun.
No I wasn't there this weekend, I was there the weekend before running my 997 with the Porsche Club. I might do one with the Evo eventually. But having rear wheel drive on the track is easier to drive, for me anyway. You guys should sign up for the Porsche event, lots of non Porsche owners attend.

Is Kerry Bonner still the chief instructor for Porsche DE event?
