Dfw - Ready For Another Tune?
but that's what I was getting at... they can't just undo the locks or totally bring it back to stock even if you pay them? If not then why would anyone ever use them? It would suck @ss to be chained to one tuner/company like that.
The way I hear it, they were supposed to release a tool for tuners to do just that, but never did. I think people just never knew about it...and many were pissed when they found out. It's part of entrusting your car to others...you hope it works out. Fortunately most tuners have EcuTek, so chances are someone can tune it.
But I could be wrong and they may have a tool. If so, nobody's telling...

What do you suggest I go with then? I don't want to be "locked" into one certain thing. I could probably search and find a billion pages on this...but could I just get teh AEM EMS and swap the stock ECU back for emissions? If so...does anyone around Dallas do this that could help me out? And as far as the TurboTrix tuning weekend, I'm not going to schedule anything until there is a dyno. Once Mike or Adam lets me know it's in...I might be done with all this crap in my life to give me the extra time again to set it up.
If it were me, I would have them tune it with EcuFlash. It's free and non proprietary...just requires a inexpensive OBDII tuning cable. It's also being used by several major tuners now. For example, DynoFlash is currently sending tunes to customers via e-mail that they flash themselves with the software.
So nothing changes for the Dyno day other than using open source software for those who have never been flashed. Anyone who already has a EcuTek flash can be flashed with that software...as they are already "stuck".

Part of the reason I haven't had my ECU flashed is b/c I don't trust ppl to do what you pay them for so much. (I've been burned too many times) Besides, even if they do what you pay them to it's not theirs so they may 1/2 *** it just to hurry up and get paid. Basically I want to know is it a PITA to [learn to] self tune using what you mentioned (ECUFlash)? I don't want to push it to the limits I just want to be able to get a few e-xtra HP out of the ECU and/or make changes as I add parts if I ever do.
We'll I would not consider it a PITA, but it does take time and real effort to learn. Although I really hate to recommend Al, you could buy a flash made for your car from him for $49, and simply flash it in with EcuFlash yourself. Check the thread on "DynoFlash e-Flash" for reviews from customers. The cool thing is that you can then make small changes to it yourself if necessary for some reason.
But let's be clear. *Nothing* beats a tuner personally in your car tuning it on the dyno and the street. Mark from TurboTrix has a great reputation down here at doing just that. That's what this thread is really about. Just make him use EcuFlash
