Curb:2 Evo:0 WARNING: Dont see tokyo drift
Oh boy! The hypocrisy and quick judgments here are pathetic. I can’t believe so many people are bashing Mr. Slappy. On the surface, the notion of drifting on streets doesn’t sound like a good idea, I can’t believe that you’re calling him out as if you never let loose on a public road.
You’re all giving him flak without knowing all the facts. All you know about the situation is what he told you. He even mentioned a cop being there; a person trained to make judgments about safety and law. He didn’t say anything about getting a ticket.
While I understand raising concern for what might have happened, I think way too many people are going overboard. If he is reckless, then nothing you say like that will make him change his mind. You’re attitude will only reinforce his behavior.

Two things, the Evos was never made to drift, secondly the mechanical aspects of the Evo perhaps suffer more than any other car. Think about it, the Evo has excellent traction(AWD,ACD.LSD,sticky tires, great suspension) forcing the Evo to drift is retarded.

BTW, the EVOs insurance rates might be high because it's the number 2 stolen car in America and way expensive to replace/repair.

Uh... Wrong. Street legal Rally car.
Actually my Evo drifts (when it was stock) easier than my Sti. These cars were designed to do controlled drifts as well as have monstrous grip when needed. This is the basis of the design of the Evo or any street legal Rally car for that matter. Rally drivers all of the world would be laughing right now if they read this.

I find it funny, at least you kept it in the parking lot. Did people laugh or was there the perverbial "Oh Snap?" I always wanted to drift, but I think I will get a POS junker and learn that way.

Your driving record.
Your insurance and credit rating.
The type of car (HP/weight ratio, etc.)
Theft rates.
Your home zip code.
While every insurance company uses different factors and formulas for calculating risk (which yields your rate), other peoples accident claims for property damage would sit VERY low in calculating your rate. This is because the propensity for property damage claims is heavily dependant on the person driving. Yes, it's a factor, but not much of one.
Vehicle theft claims from other people would weigh much more heavily in calculating your rate, especially in conjunction with your zip code. Theft claims could be either parts off your car or the entire car. This type of factor weighs more heavily on a good driver’s rate because (as far as the insurance company is concerned) you have no control over when/if your car is stolen.
Bodily injury claims from other people would also weigh more heavily on your rates, because again the primary factors are out of your control… the structural rigidity of the car (poor side rating on the Evo) and high HP.
theft rates for the evo
