Gun Law Question for New Mexicans

Let's say you live at an apartment complex and you happen to catch someone breaking in to your car...is it within the law to empty a clip into the sob? I know it is if someone breaks into your residence, not sure about the parking lot of an apartment complex.

I'm pretty sure you can't do that,it's not self defense.

i read somewhere, in Texas, the drive way is considered an extension of your residence (I'm talking about an actual house, not an apartment) so it would be legal to protect it.
Just asking if the apartments get the similar previlege.

Nope...you can only use deadly force to protect yourself or others. Most likely you will do some time if you empty a clip on someone outside trying to break into a car. For one, its outside and think how ****ty you will probably feel if you found out one of your bullets traveled past who you meant to shoot and ends up killing someone else walking by or someone in their house that was sleeping. Now that would suck

now you could coax him into your house...then it is anything goes...mainly I think that if your run at him with a gun they will probably flee.

^ agreed. You will go to jail and the criminal will end up owning your car and apartment (assuming he lives ).
