Noob sez hi & thanks
Hi all, wanted to say hi to the local community, and share my story a bit.
I just picked up an '03 LY beauty last week. I had lusted after Evos for many years, and in fact I was shopping for an STI recently, when I decided to check used Evo prices again. I'm soo happy I did, I found this really nice example locally. The fellow who was selling it didn't know much about it, he was helping liquidate some estate assets. I basically fell in love during the test drive, but with no real owner history, I was a bit leary. So I took her up to Don Herring in Plano to get her checked out. I was spooked by what they found, even though it looked stock, the guys were saying she was far from it, w/cams for sure, plus a catless TBE, bigger turbo... worst part was the WG signal line had been disconnected
... Being an Evo noob, I didn't want to get in over my head, and I didn't know if the few WOT runs I had done on the Tollway had taken her into dangerous overboost... AND she had a CEL.
Luckily though, Ken @ DH gave me the number of a local tuner. After a few days, I got a chance to talk to KevinD, and he said he actually knew the car.
So I went out to see her again, ran a compression check, got good numbers, and made a deal on the spot.
A few days later, I was driving her home.
I got a chance to stop by KevinD's last week, and he was super nice. I can tell that his local rep is well earned. even though he (and Denver) were busy w/2 other cars, he hooked up his scan laptop, confirmed what map she's running, and offered some thoughts on my next steps. She needs some attention, mostly a tune it seems, and a few boost control bits. Anyways, if it weren't for finding Kevin, and knowing that EvoM is around as an amazing resource, I don't think I would have bought her.
I have a lot of reading to do, and I apologize in advance for any dumb questions that I might ask, but I promise to always search 1st.

Kevin is an awesome guy and is so informative. He recently retuned my car after a bad experience with a local tuner in Arlington. Not only did he do an awesome job but he explained everything as he went. To top it all off I was missing the cubby hole at the bottom of the dash and he gave me one freeas well as milled out the spark plug defouler that I thought I milled out enough!! I can assure you no one besides myself and Kevin will touch my Evo again!! Ooooh yea and welcome to the boards
Thanks for the welcome, guys. I did my first oil change last night. I'm sending a sample of whatever was in there to Blackstone for a UOA, and will post back w/results. Here's a pic of my new ride;
