FYI: Austin Windshield

I needed to replace my windshield due to a crack (imagine that... a cracked windshield on an Evo ). I got a ton of different quotes, because I know the markup is crazy on auto glass. Most places were charging $200-400 for plain 'ole lancer glass.

I figured I might save my fellow Evo owners some time. This place will replace your windshield at your home for $140. Good prices and service from a local shop deserve a free recommendation.

AAA Discount Glass 512.797.4253

Also some items to note:

Rear view mirror fit just fine.
Stock window weighed 24.5 lbs.
Replacement weighed 27.5 lbs.

Mine says:

PPG Solex Duplate
DOT 540 M413
FW2455

I guess the last number is the part number. I'm really not sure.

fw2455 is a part number, but i'm sure they used the cheaper fw2275 instead... i would simply reuse the mirror bracket from the factory windshield or grab one of the several i have laying around the shop... the parts are 90% the same, with the exception of the mirror bracket and a small dot matrix on the top... it's been awhile since i changed one, and i don't recall my old Evo having it either... they offer both with or without a shade depending on what the customer wants..

After finding this thread, I decided to try AAA Discount Glass out. My experience wasn't good. I scheduled to have the guy come replace my windshield 4 or 5 times. He wouldn't show up at the specified time, so I would give him a call a couple of hours later to ask when he way going to show up. He always had some song and dance about why he couldn't fix it today, but that he could come do it tomorrow. I ended up giving up on AAA Discount Glass. If you were to have warranty issues with his installation, I would be very surprised if he showed up again to fix the problem.
