If anyone is interested...we did one last year, had a team of EVOs...
Walter did very well, and shoulda taught all of us the ropes...
it was very frustrating trying to understand the whole thing,
(no one should try it w/out detailed lessons)
all the other EVOs spent the entire day
completely lost----but====never in doubt
I suggest an EVO cruise as an alternative,
our own route, ending in a picnic at some lake, drinking....
I'm not sure I'm fully grasping this whole road rally...sounds like it wants to be a TX leg of the gumball 3000 but with "rules" on paper like maintaining the legal speed limit...so is there a set route and you get points for taking alternative twisty routes and getting back on the main road also? I'm confused...

Looks like what might also be called a Time-Speed-Distance rally. You'll have a starting point and a series of point-to-point instructions like...
1) Proceed at 35 MPH to Wells Rd.
2) Continue at 40 MPH until the fourth yellow road sign and make a right
3) Proceed at 40 MPH until something else...
The two tricks are 1) maintaining the speed indicated and 2) figuring out where those waypoints are. Oftentimes the thing you are looking for is obscured or otherwise not exactly what you're expecting. The goal is to make it to all of the checkpoints in exactly the amount of time that the judges are expecting. The number of seconds (absolute) you vary from that time become your score, and the lowest score wins.
I did one of these with the Porsche club, and had a very good time. We screwed the pooch on one leg, though, and went from second to dead last. I might be inclined to do this if someone were interested in teaming up...

No, and you can have all the maps you want. Neither will be much help. You just have to drive it to find "Right at third Stop sign."

Our instructions look like that, except no speeds listed. You just drive the speed limit or less. Time is not a part of the scoring unless you are more than 30 minutes late at the end, and then there is a small per-minute penalty. Scoring is based on who follows the correct route most closely. It's not as easy as it sounds, but there is a "First-Timer" class, so you will be competing against people of the same skill level.

"TEAM EVO" took part in one last year and it left me w/the familiar frustrated feeling of:
I decided at that time:
did i leave something out?
oh, yes
someone has to organize it all....
any takers?
- being hopelessly lost
- trying to figure out someone else's directions (knowing they are trying to 'fool you' at the same time)
- 'shake' w/the pressure of competition
- garnish w/the pressure of over-time penalties
- 'chug' w/ the pressure of 'TEAM EVO' counting on my lack of understanding of the whole thing....
I decided at that time:
- most of us just want a friendly get2gether
- a fun drive w/out leaving anyone out
- brief periods of 'play' leaving any real 'playing' to MSR/Ennis or ultimately TxHillCountry/Arkansas' Ozarks ie NTEC's TwistyRoadTour

did i leave something out?
oh, yes

Kelly I think we should have split up the teams differently before so it wouldn't have been frustrating for you and your navvie. All is meant in fun and the "pressure" thing is all in your head. Nothing matters but enjoying a nice drive, you're just playing a little game while you're at it.
All that being said I'm shooting on the 9th so I couldn't make it anyway.

We have 18 cars entered today, so it looks like about 30 by Saturday. We have 3-car teams from Crossfire, Mini, Subaru, and the Italian Car Club. We also have 2 Great Racers entered (1928 Hudson Sport Roadster and 1930 Ford Model A, though with the temperatures, they may bring their daily drivers). Come join us!
