OK I am super jealous
NTEC only, I agree...we can barely rely on our friends to chip in for hot dogs...
I got stuck at the first MSR event years ago and Jim and Mark helped pay it off
There are a lot of great facilities all over the area...
unfortunately, they are on the periphery..
Looking at the google map of DFW for a central lake...
this one popped up...Mountain Creek Lake
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=...-8&sa=N&tab=wl
http://www.grandfungp.com/parks/larg...eklakepark.htm
then looking at the facilities, this popped up
http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat...k/access.phtml
or...on JOE POOL
there is a state park as well as restaurant...more options we can ever agree on...
not to mention, i have a friend w/a fun sailboat!!!
there are pontoon boats for rent if we get really serious...
I've never been on that lake, but I can drive around to see if its a neighborhood we wanna meet in...

We've been trying to get autocross access to the naval air base just west of there for a while... in fact it was considered for the nationals next year (but the city of dallas would rather spend money renaming streets than consider making money).
I'd definitely feel better if we could scope out the area first

I have seen the Mountain Creek Lake camping/grilling/hanging out by the lake area and its ok. As you can see on the map, its on the east side of the lake, south of the bridge, just before you go across the bridge. I think there would be plenty of room to park cars around a grill/picnic table area.
I would vote for the Joe Pool lake area. I have gone to the state park there many times with my wifes family out on the boat and its nice. You can either go to the beach area or a camp site, but I do know they limit the number of cars at a camp site. Plus there wouldn't be that much room for pictures with the cars. (know where to line them up).
I live less than 2 miles from Joe Pool Lake, I will check it out this weekend to see how it looks on the beach side, whether there is room for the cars, places to set up, etc.. I will report back sometime this weekend.
Also, I think the entry fee to the state park is like 5 bucks or something. We have a year pass so I really don't know the exact amount for a day.

Just doing some research of Joe Pool Lake, I would definately recommend Lynn Park. It has a nice beach, picnic tables, places for the kids to play, and a nice big parking lot for our cars.

At Lynn Creek sign, vehicle entry is 10 bucks with up to 6 people in the car.
The big pavillions on the weekend rent out for 100 bucks a day. Also, they do have covered picnic tables with grills on concrete pads. We would probably have to get there early to get one of those because on the weekends, I bet they go like hotcakes! But they do have other picnic tables shaded by trees.
Or we could just skip all of that and just eat at the resturant. Goofygrin, if you need help with anything just let me know, like I said, I live 2 miles away from the lake.

OK I'm out of town this weekend, but if someone with free time (*cough* kelly) can go scope it out I think it sounds like a good place.
From everyone's perspective, what's the best day going to be? I know Tim's pretty busy on Saturdays from a few weeks. I'm busy for the next 3-4 sundays.

I would definately be down for doing something like this. I can't make it to the weekday meetings because I work evenings in Greenville. Just give me a place and a date during the weekend and I'll show up.

ive been on the naval air base runway
hit about 160 before i slowed down (stock turbo at the time). it about 1.6 miles long, and i've got a cell phone video of me going down it. the cops do training there. we rented a hanger for my work, and we always saw them running around there. the lady in charge of the tarmac was adement that we didn't leave any "burnt rubber". although thats all the cops did while they were there. go figure.
