the lil nit pick things on the car:
as far as the small problems i'll try and list them here:
- the a/c control knobs dash would not light up when you turn your lights on...i think i messed something up when i painted my dash flat black. they'll light up all of a sudden while your driving sometimes but almost 80% of the time they won't light up.
- the power steering appears to be going out. you feel it when the engine gets hot and you've been driving it a while. i have a power steering pump i bought but have not had a chance to put it on yet. i'll give it with the car to whoever buys it. it kicks back in when you rev it up, so that being said when i'm making a 3 point turn or at a stop making a turn i rev it up a lil to get assist on the turn.
- the rota boosts on the car has a lil bit of a clearance issue on the front calipers. wheeldude here can confirm that issue...i fixed it by putting 4mm spacers on the front, and i went ahead and put the same spacers on the rear to make the handling and stance look better too. but with any car having spacers, there's the issue of steering vibration...you feel it sometimes when you're going very fast (above 80/90mph sometimes), and sometimes when you brake hard.
- since it's a 2003 evo 8, it has the infamous p0300 cel...you can search that here and you'll find out what i'm talking about. when the car gets modded (basic tbe mod), it pops the p0300 code (multiple cylinder misfire) due to some harmonic vibration from the tranny i think and the ecu thinks it has a misfire...the only way i took care of this was using the "creader" plug in (you can look that up here too). it clears the cel but it clears all the other codes as well..so when it comes to inspection, you have to make sure you unplug it and drive the car for about 40-80 miles before getting it inspected or else the inspection readings will read "sensors not ready".
- it's still on the stuck clutch. but when i bought it from the dealer (35K miles when i bought it), they just had the transmission replaced because the previous owner broke the tranny and instead of having it repaired he just traded it in for an 06 mr. so with that being said it has a tranny and clutch that has roughly 35k miles on it. i don't push it or launch it so the clutch is still good.
- the only time i had it repaired was from a baseball size hail damage on the left rear quarter panel just above the tail light.
hopefully i disclosed all the negatives about the car. it's a great car, i would keep it if i could. i just need to start saving up for a bigger house and right now i have an suv and 2 evos. my wife's still in school so she's not working either. i would really like to sell it to someone i know has the same enthusiasm i have for taking care of the car. the evo x is comfy but the evo 8 is a blast to drive. maybe when i start modding the x i'll feel the same way. i guess it's just the feeling that you get attached to the car since you work on it and all the things you've done to it.
i think that's about it...if i forgot something i'll add it up as i go. it's a fun car to drive, it's pretty much the basic mods evo owners do before they go hardcore and change out turbos
. it's always garage kept and i only drive it to/from work. hardly any dents on it (if you can spot one). almost 8/10 times i wash it i wax it afterwards, hence the term "obsessed" was what the wifey used to describe me. it's very well taken cared of coz it's my only pass time hobby so oil's changed every 3k miles with mobil 1 full synthetic and tranny/transfercase fluid with mitsu diaqueen every 10k. it's hard to let it go after all the work i've done but i can always pray for an evo sometime down the road. i'm asking $17k for it with all the mods. pm me or txt me 817 789 9662. thanks!
