Carrera del Golfo al Pacifico

A friend of mine puts on a Rally in Mexico from Veracruz to Acapulco that some of you might be interested in. This is the 8th year for the rally but he has added a component to it that makes it more compelling for those of us that normally don't drive south of the border. US participants will meet up in San Antonio on Sunday February 8th and drive down together and be followed by a van and flat bed from the border down to Veracruz where the rally starts on the 11th. It's all inclusive including food and lodging. Driving will start about 10 each morning, the last day being February 14th where there will be an award ceremony in Acapulco. The organizer is an old rally car driver and his son now races in WRC and won a rally in Ecuador last month in his Evo IX.

If you're interested let me know and I can get you more information, or if you're proficient in Spanish http://www.carreradelgolfoalpacifico.com.mx/index.htm is there website, but I also have English brochures.

You wouldn't happen to know anyone interested in sponsoring me do you? Then maybe I can go. Sounds like fun for anyone who gets to go.

check your car insurance... mine doesn't cover going to Mexico (and frowns upon border towns).

No American insurance will cover you beyond the border towns. You have to buy insurance from a Mexican agency for the term of your stay. You should also carry plenty of "Blagojevich" cash for the police "inspections."
