Yes I'm joining. Maybe just SCCA but possibly both. I might as well since I'm sure I'll do at least 5 events from each club.Originally Posted by goofygrin
Are you going to join the SCCA or ER this year?
Also, I found out that the SCCA does a "tech day" where they go over your car really good. If your car passes that then they put you on their list and you don't have to be tech'd at each event. Not that getting tech'd each event is a big deal or anything...

You can also ask for a specific work assignment and/or # at the same time (or maybe that's for pre-paying).Originally Posted by Evo_Someday

If you prepay the year, here's the pricing:
Autocross School (with annual reg) $45
annual registration (members only) $185
Prepaying gets you 2 events for free. My only hangup is that there appear to be some conflicts with ER and I hate to choose.
Updated the SCCA dates & Locations. Note the Test n Tune. This is a good day to come out and get some experience!

Hi there. I'm relatively new to all this (did about 4 auto-x events last year), and i had just a quick, probably stupid question: are all the events labeled "HPDE/Driver's Education/Road Racing" an HPDE along with a road race, or just the race? I'm really interested in trying one of these out. thanks

In the HPDE/Drivers education section, only the ones marked "Time Trials" and NASA are races. And to do the NASA races you need a license, which requires you to do HPDEs with an instructor to show that you're not going to kill anyone.
Does that help?
Does that help?

absolutely helps. thank you. yeah i dont know if i'm quite ready for the track just yet
which is why i would like to try my hand at the HPDE's. you need to be a member in NASA to do these, correct? and also, what is the average cost to get in? thanks again

Head to the respective sites (I have them listed below on the post). Apex is roughly $200 for a day of instruction. The others (NASA, TheDriversEdge) are $300 for a weekend of instruction.
You can also do the Autocross schools if you wanted to learn to autocross (it's a similar but different car control). The SCCA one is pretty cheap, ~$75. The Evolution autocross school is much more expensive, around $200 a day, but if you are serious about autocrossing it is a deal.

i'm actually already signed up for the TX region auto-x school in march.
thanks for the info, unfortunatly, now that i know, it just pisses me off cuz the timing of my work schedule means i can only go to 2 events....the entire season
oh well, gotta make money to support the habit
. thanks again

You might find something closer to home. Maybe it will allow you more events?

What about the Lone Star/Hill Country PCA DEs at TWS?
I highly recommend them. Just make sure to register early, especially if you're not a PCA member.
(full disclosure--I'm a PCA instructor...)

Feel free to PM me if anyone has questions. I'd love to see some Evos out there.
(I'm still driving my M3 on the track. My Evo X MR will be the track car once the warranty expires, or until I just can't resist any longer...)
