Austin Hill Country drive 5/9-5/10

Update:
So after some research and reviewing the motorsports schedule it looks like the Hill Country run will be held 5/9/09 and 5/10/09. There are no other events going on this weekend, so it should be great for a nice drive down to and around Austin. More details to follow as far as the route goes, more than likely I will get input from a couple of our members and setup a route closer to the event.

If you have responsible friends that want to come, they are more than welcome (including elise drivers).

Update 2/24
A shop in Austin has offered up their location for a BBQ and an open lift in case anyone needs to make repairs. I will speak with a couple of the local DFW members to set a route shortly.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So the Dfw people are looking into having a cruise down to the Austin/SA area and I am looking at getting some info to start out.
What shops are still open and reputable in the Austin area? If you want you can pm me as some of them may not be sponsors.

Also, I am aware of some of the nice roads around hippie hallow and the lake, but any other input would be awesome as far as routes go. We have info on some of the more traveled routes, but if anyone down there wants to help out planning a cruise in and around Austin/SA that would be great.

This event is still in the infant stages, so I have not setup any dates yet, just trying to do some of the preliminary planning.

Thanks
Chris

Chris-
Devo330 and I have quite a bit of experience in the hill country, we can offer many good suggestions for meeting spots, pics, and routes. We would be happy to help you organize this event.

That would be awesome. I was wondering if a company like Boost Logic or MZM would be willing to host a day down there. Basically give us a parking lot and maybe a cookout.

I have sent emails to a couple of shops so we shall see.

I'm from Austin, grew up in leander, below is a rout I try drive when I get to come down to Austin.... just a suggestion.... awesome turns, beautiful lake and hill views...etc... I think you can use Google street view to see some of it..

There used to be, and may still be, several restaurants on the way including the Oasis, and The County Line (some of the best ribs on Earth IMO)

Just thought I would throw it out there....

2222 is fun! But you might as well include more of 1431 and Cow Creek Rd. since your out there.

Option 2

Of if you guys come down 281, I hear Inks Lake State park is fantastic.

Option 3

If you just want a company to host a BBQ and parking lot, also contact Driveway of Austin. They don't have much of a parking lot, but a nice track instead.

Those are good routes, I do have a little bit of concern with the traffic and LEOs on 2222, especially with a larger group. Lime creek is awesome! I had in mind a few that are a bit farther south and west, and MUCH less traffic.

I don't think there are that many LEO's on 2222...I live right by there and I always drive the portion between 360/Mopac. No trouble at all.

its been a long time since I lived there, but as I remember that section of 2222 there are not many place for them to sit.... so it was pretty tame....

traffic will depend on the time of day everyone gets there... I just loved that road cause its nice and wide, Limecreek is one of the best drives ever, but its a small 2 lane road, 2222 has a lot of elevation change and some nice corners and it is a wide 4 lane + road......

Ok so it looks like we have a lot of options as far as the drive. I have emailed multiple shops in the Austin area, but have yet to hear back. I am in continuing ed this week and next, but I will try and get some dialogue going asap.

FWIW, Austin PD speed traps are 90% laser. At least one of you has a jammer. . . right? Just put that guy in front.
