Front licence plate law in Texas?
Since I'm moving to Austin on March 22nd I was curious as to if there is a requirement/law that you must have a front licence plate? I know here in Oregon it is a law but I haven't had one on any car I have ever owned and never gotten pulled over for it. I know friends that have it just depends on how bored the cop is and if he wants to be a dick or not. Is it a law down in Texas and do the cops enforce it alot?

I've seen some without theirs. Maybe a few. But I never really look.
I think the only major law here regaurding licence plates here is that the "TEXAS" part has to be showing (aka: a lp cover/boreder can't obstruct the view of it.) And the cops have been very **** about this, too.

You need a front license plate on, most don't pull u over for it, but I got warned for speeding and at the same time, warned that they were going to start pulling people over for no front plates and obstructions over the rear and front. I believe it too because last month, a guy I work with got a ticket for no front plate on his corvette.

In oregon if you get a ticket for no front plate you can go to the court and show them proof that you changed it and they will cancel the ticket. Is this true in Texas? I guess up here they call them fix-it tickets atleast.
I got pulled over for no front license plate, and got slapped with a $150 ticket from the city of Jewisville, ****ing pigs I hate them with a passion!!
I'm gonna fight it nonetheless.

Yeah those damn pigs.
Anyway, Texas law requires a vehicle to have a front license plate installed. But does everybody follow this law? Heck no. Can a cop pull you over for it? Of course. That my friend is a probable cause. Getting pulled over for this violation vary from town to town. Half the people here in Houston don't have front plates on and I only see a few getting pulled over for it. So, it's up to you if you want to take the chance of getting pulled over.
BTW, I'm a police officer, if you have anymore questions about Texas criminal law, don't hesitate to PM me.

i live in austin and i got pulled over for no license plate, and that was it. i have it under my seat. i bent it a bit and left it there, so when the cop pulled me over i told him it fell off cuz the dealer didnt put it on right and i showed him, so he just gave me a warning. but yeah, its the law. oh yeah, last year i got pulled over 5 times for speeding and not once did they tell me about the plate. so i guess it depends on the situation.
I have not run a front plate since 1992, (when I moved to Austin) and have not had any trouble in town... half the city doesn't run one either. I've never had it even mentioned to me when I've been pulled over for "other reasons". One would think that if someone was going to get pulled over for it, it would be someone in a big-winged, boyracer-taillighted Evo (yellow Type R before that). Now on the other hand, every time I forget to throw the "spare" plate in the windshield out of town, I get to meet the first Texas Trooper I pass (it seems).
front plate
Chris, you will be pulled over when the officer is ahead of you and he gets a "off" reading from his gun without the metal from the plate. why don't you just leave the Oregon plate on the back and run that wya, you're a student right? you don't have to change if your residency is not Texas.
