I am signed up. My question to Villan:

Is there a way to get around a ticket for this? I have heard, if there is no way to attach, ie bracket, or having to drill holes in the bumper, that you can have this dismissed. Any truth to this?

There is no way to get around this ticket. Well, most of the time. Having no brackets or holes does not exempt anyone. I know that I've read a few people that got away with such excuse(i.e. ImportPepe). But for the most part, if the judge/prosecutor knows what they are doing, there is no getting around it but to fix it.

This sounds almost exactly like the one from the California petition.

Anyone else notice this?

bump...don't think you have to be a texas resident to voice your opinion on texas wanting other reasons to hassle performance cars and not make more of an attempt at catching the serial kidnapper/rapist.

Bump for more signers. I just saw this and signed. I heard the current plate repeal section of the bill passed the TX house but failed the Senate partially due to the DPS lobby. Even if the petition is not effective, it's still worth a shot for all of us that hate the front plate.

The petition:

Interesting TX Comptroller article...

The only times I have been pulled over by the local authorities centered around a lack of a front plate. On one trip from Dallas to Arkansas,I was pulled over by DPS twice on the same day.The explanation was for lack of a front plate. Not for speeding or any other reason.

Yep, I've talked to cops about this one ('cause it really pisses me off). One specifically said that the reason they do it is to "initiate contact." ie. pull you over to look for something else. He said a lot of cops find warrants that way.

As far as the front window...technically it's still illegal in Texas. The law states specifically where you can have it and it mentions a certain height from the ground.

You were misinformed. Basically, the plate has to be displayed in the front and rear without distortion of the lettering or numbers.

Your city or county might have it's own ordinances (highly unlikely), but according to the state of Texas, one could interpret a windscreen placement acceptable as long as it was readable.

Coincidentally, I drove a late model Volvo for years across Texas, NEVER once stopped for a missing front place. In fact, I was cited for speeding a few times within that period, and even then was never questioned about the lack of a plate. I usually drive with the plate within reach, and toss it up if I’m pulled over.

ditto here

on the last GrouponeDFW cruise we sat talking to the Venus police while they were posting cars on all exits out of Venus, yes, we were behaving all the way past 'm
anyway this ranking officer said he never notices one missing unless its in such a conspicuous place like the windshield. turns out it has to be installed right where all the other ones are
by the way thats a fun cruise..this Saturday

Oh o.k., since it was the "ranking officer" we should ignore what the actual law is.

Police officers are not experts on the law. If you have a question about a law, look it up or call a lawyer. Oh wait... It's posted two posts above...
