Need new tires!

My tires are bald @ 8300 miles - I was quoted $240.00 per tire for stock evo tires - is there a better tire out there that will last longer than 8300 miles -

you know I don't make a move without consulting my Evo speed brotherhood

Thanks for your input.

You are hard on tires Bro.... You might want to try tires with a bit more life, but you'll miss the handling of the Advans. Falken makes a new tire that has longer thread wear rating but is supposed to be really good handling, it's the Azenis ST-115.

The Toyo Proxes FZ4 are also longer wearing but not so much fun as the Proxes T1s (which will wear out fast).

Some folks swear by the Kumho tires which are cheap and come in a variety of flavors ffrom the 712s (longer wear, not handling) to the MXs that lots of ppl are raving about to the Victoracers whicha are DOT track tires....(can you spell out r-a-p-i-d tire wear? )

It's realy your call. Try Tirerack for a variety of choices....

Good luck

budget tires, i would go with:
-Yokohama ES100 (has better wet traction than Azenis, softer sidewall, less grip than Azenis)

-Falken Azenis (best bang for the buck, excellent grip, alot of people use this tire for AutoX, poor wet traction)

If you're willing to spend more money then get the
-Potenza S-03 (excellent traction in wet and dry condition, OEM tires on Honda S2000 )

-Toyo T1-S (haven't really had experience with this tire, but have heard nothing but good things about it)
read this thread for more info on this tire
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...threadid=78060

There are other very good tires in this price range, but i haven't really had any experience with them. Just do some more research before you buy. Personally, if i had the money I would get the stock Yoko Advans, but $1000 for tires uch:

I think the BFG KDW will be my next set of tires. It has a higher treadwear rating compared to stock and performs pretty decent on wet and dry surfaces(from what I've read).

I use the Falken 115, manily due to they are quiet. They perform pretty well, have more sidewall roll than stock. But, all depends on what your looking for . As my evo is mainly a daily driver I wanted comfort and low noise while keeping descent performace.

Correct me if I am wrong, but you can get them for 212 a tire online at

With the road hazard it comes out to 237.44 per tire.

I went with the Kumho MX's after I had Yoko ES-100's on my car for less then a week. The Es-100's are just way too flexable, the sidewall is just not stiff enough for the Evo, the steering felt muted, slow, and disconnected, I did NOT like them. I have driven other cars with the ES-100's and they were just fine, but not on the Evo. I have been very happy with the MX's so far after about 6000 miles. They do not have the absolute grip of the Advans, but they are at about 95% of the grip, they work well in the wet i.e. they are very progressive when they let go, and the wear looks to be MUCH better. I wore my Advans out in 9200 miles and the Kumhos look like they are going to last a lot longer.

I have to go with the Kumhos too. They are great. I went with a slightly wider tire and see no drop in performance.

I went with the Potenza S-03's (thanks Andy) and are satisfied, good alternative to the stock tires and I got mine for $157 a peice which was better than the $250 a tire for the ADVANs. They seem to handle great around corners not too bad for lauching either or everyday driving also less road noise.
