Call in the mad scientist....KevinD

Kevin,

Any word on the tuning software for the Evo X?

nikkadanny Jan 19, 2009 10:50 AM

shouldnt the info be in the evox tuning subforum?

EvoXTX Jan 19, 2009 11:47 AM

well i guess cuse its pertaining to the DFW area for tunes from kevin..it'd be ok in here

EvoG8r Jan 19, 2009 12:00 PM

I would rather ask in the sub forum myself since its considered local.

JDW1479 Jan 19, 2009 01:28 PM

Considering there are a billion post on all different kinds of flashes/software/chips etc, the information is too buried. Plus, I don't even know what software he uses.

Shimanchu Jan 19, 2009 01:41 PM

I always just send him a PM if I have questions. He has always responded back as well. {thumbup}

andrewzaragoza Jan 19, 2009 01:48 PM

there are a few tuners around the US that could already tune the X using ecu flash. i believe there are a handful of them around the US. here are a few.
Razorlab - GST Motorsport. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...o-results.html
CBRD https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...-ecuflash.html

newMRevoNyne Jan 19, 2009 01:51 PM

ECUtek as well

http://www.evoxtuners.com/evo-x-turb...-released.html

goofygrin Jan 19, 2009 02:28 PM

ECUTek = $6-700 (licensing cost + tune cost) and closed source

ECUFlash = $free + KevinD's tuning cost and is "open" source (well open source tuning)

The last I have read is that they are still working out the bugs (bugs which equal bricked ECUs).

Just supplying options, research is up to the interested party...

Thats everything I have researched Goofy. I thought KevinD may have access to more information than us. Maybe an inside track we don't know about.

DonMitsu Jan 19, 2009 03:17 PM

Cobb Access port is only $695

denver Jan 19, 2009 03:17 PM

I follow it pretty closely for kevin.... b/c I have more time at work to surf the web..... but we do not have a method for tuning the X right now, ECUflash is the software, Kevin has the cable and is ready when the final version is released. The beta version is working, but if the user is not careful, then there is a possibility to brick the ECU.

The issue with the AP (which was $625 at the beginning of the year) is that it only has one map now... and you get weird things if you have any mods at all.

You can get custom tuned, but you pay the cost of the AP + the cost of the dyno tune ($3-400).

For those of us "team cheap bastard" members there really isn't anything just jumping out at us at the moment. Patience is definitely a virtue IMO when you are talking about the ECU of such a complex vehicle like the Evo X.

CBRD Jan 19, 2009 03:57 PM

we have not bricked any ecu's,

i think some may have bricked MR ecu's

cb

EvoXTX Jan 19, 2009 04:01 PM

Theres a few places in Cali that if you buy the accessport it comes with a custom tune to put on it..at least thats what ive heard of. And thats for the 695..it'd be great if Cobb out here in plano would offer that. First tune is free or something, since they dont seem to be rushing out on the new maps..

And thats what I would be affraid of cause I own a MR.

KevinD Jan 19, 2009 05:27 PM

hey guys, i have been busy running around finding parts for a motor (you MUST see the thread i'm about to make :) ). anyway, i have nothing new on the evoX ecuflash yet. i'm in the same boat everyone else is in really. if i had free time and knew what the guys developing it were doing, i would be helping and have a beta version

nawaz Jan 19, 2009 09:50 PM

^^^You just CAN'T be that dedicated and busy Kevin! hahaha

Pirana Jan 20, 2009 08:09 AM

Plus now COBB has the tuning guru in-house for the month.

goofygrin Jan 21, 2009 01:08 PM

The AccessTuner Race for the X was released: http://forums.cobbtuning.com/forums/...ad.php?t=45294

This is like ECUFlash for the AccessPort. Let's see what Kevin can make of it :D

I'm sure George will be interested too JJ.

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to clarify a few points...

AccessTUNER Race is similar to ECUFlash in that it allows the user to custom tune their own car. However, it must be connected to an AccessPORT and the AccessPORT is required to flash the map to the ECU. This is software specifically for the purpose of allowing AccessPORT owners the ability to self-tune. It is in no way an AccessPORT alternative.

EVO X Stage 2 maps for the AccessPORT will be available by the middle of next week.

Our calibrators at Surgeline Tuning are working on maps to work with some of the most popular aftermarket intakes available for the EVO X and those maps will be available in the near future.

Thanks,

Gary Sheehan
Director of Marketing
COBB Tuning

EvoXTX Jan 22, 2009 02:14 PM

if the accesstuner will work so taht kevin can tune my car with it..i'll buy an accessport. thanks for the update on the stage 2 maps as well!

KevinD Jan 22, 2009 02:22 PM

i'm going to order my evoX wideband setup this weekend so i'll have the capability to log that data on the street. it will prolly be something similiar to the way i do it now. might have to use the APO temporarily until i can find a easy access way to power it.

Gary, I don't think that anyone thought it was an alternative to actually owning an AP lol?).

Maybe my hesitations regarding it would be better alleviated if there were more screenshots of using it? I realize it's not a product you really actively support, but something is better than nothing :D (unless that something is really bad or wrong, then maybe not?).

JDW1479 Jan 22, 2009 02:46 PM

KevinD,

If you feel comfortable using the AccessPort and the AccessTuner Race, I would definately like you to tune my car with it. Of course, I will need to AccessPort myself. Just let me know so I can go ahead and buy one. Thanks.

I went ahead and ordered the Innovate LC-1 so that I can see wtf is going on with my awesome 9.5 AFRs.

??? Why would you go to California? we have Cobb Access Ports here in Dallas for 695 and no shipping cost

goofygrin Jan 22, 2009 03:25 PM

The price of the AP includes a "custom" tune in the case of a couple vendors (now who knows if the tune is good or not).

I can't find the thread, but I saw one where the dyno between the cobb map and the perrin map was pretty apparent. The cobb made more power up high and the perrin made more in the low to mid range. Not sure which was better, they were just "different."

SilverEvoX Jan 22, 2009 03:48 PM

Kevin, if you're looking to do some random logs on a X hit me up and I'll bring the car by to get it logged. As for the rest of us X owners patience is indeed a virtue. I'm getting close to buying the AP but that + custom tune at COBB will be close to a grand I'm sure and that's whats holding me back and forcing me to wait on EcuFlash for the time being.

Goofy if you haven't seen the low octane and high octane maps for the X in that other thread I can post them for you here. I've got the maps and the rom.

Edit: and from what I recall it's more like 9:1 instead of 9.5:1 :(

goofygrin Jan 22, 2009 03:51 PM

I've seen them, just it's not something I really understand (I mean I "understand" but not "grok" to date myself)... so... ya...

wickedchimp Jan 22, 2009 09:08 PM

I would also love to see some screen shots of the Access tuner race software. Id also like to know what tables are configurable with the software.

Given the special, I'll probably know next week ;)
