Jeff,
If you want to run and need an instructor send me a PM with your contact info and I can call JonK and see if there are any extra instrctors. You probaly met JonK at the Autometrics day, he is the owner and operator of Seat-Time. JonK is a really good friend on mine and I can call him and see if they can find an instructor for you. I have only spoken to Leh on the phone and I know he is a hell of a driver. I spoke to JonK a few min ago and I think that Cory(RSR) will not be able to make it tommorow. JonK is going to do a few laps in my Evo and we will see what kind of times a modded Evo can get down to at Roebling. Shoot me a PM if you want me to call JonK and see if there are any instrucors, let me know. I will see you there tommorow.

I am trying to talk Leh into being my instructor. He said he gets car sick so he don't know if he can do it. I told him to take some dramamine and suck it up, so maybe he'll try. He's def gonna drive my car around the track though, so, we'll know what it will do too. I have all stock suspension though, so i don't know what it'll do. If he can't instruct me, i probably won't run. Don't want to go to all that trouble and expense. How much is it to run if you provide your instructor?

Thanks for the help!

The day went well. It rained in the morning and then cleared up in the afternoon. I was fighting igntion problems all day. I am not sure what is going on, I am going to datalog some today and send the maps to David monday. Leh is fast in that STI. JonK ran a few laps in my car but it would not pull in 5th gear after about 130. We think in is the spark in the higher RPM ranges. It was a good time, I was glad to see a large crowd at Seat-Time. There was a super charged Viper that was really nasty.Hope all is well and everyone can make it out to the next event.

it was pretty fun, wish i would have signed up to drive. i wanted to let leh take my car out on one of his sessions, but jonk said no so i couldn't see what he could do with it.

i would be all for doing it next time, but i don't want some random instructor, i tried to talk leh into doing it and he said he'll try but he gets car sick, LOL. whatta wiener.

anyway, it was nice to meet you gray, i was expecting to see more evos, kinda dissapointed.

Hey guys..

First, Jeff, i know that was a dissipointing call and all to not let Leh take the Evo out, i had 55 cars on the track, (in various groups of course) but thats one of the things that you get a "hey he got to take his buddies car out..." etc.

I have a two day event in March, there are instructors available right now.. I would love to see you out there and getting to play.

Grey, the more i think about it, the more i think that that set-up just isn't roadrace friendly yet. it would pull in every gear but 5th.. so i dont think its an RPM/engine HP issue.. I think it needs a higher rev limit, and with me short shifting to not "abuse" it.. it was worse. Stock Evo shifts out of 4th at 114 mph, i was probably putting yours in 5th at 110.. i think i was dropping out of boost, and without it, it never really picked up speed.. It would c r e e p up to 120 or so, then i would stop looking as it was getting to the braking zone, but Brian said i was hitting 130, so it was picking up 10mph in about 100 feet. Starting to accelerate again.. then when i got in the car with you and noticed that you were shifting higher in 4th, and it was going to 120 fine.

I think the high spool and my short shifting just made it worse for me. But it wasn't a high RPM thing because 115-130 isn't high RPM in 5th gear.

It was also hard to get a rythm also, i was running down cars that were 10-15 seconds in front of me in a lap. I put 20 seconds on the Blue STi in one lap. The car is fast, little bit of tuning left i guess, a good lap with no traffic to keep momentum up, and it should make a BUNCh of difference.

Jon and I spoke about Grey's mean machine, and I concur. Good analysis Jon, that is why you are the man.

I am getting tires this weekend, hopefully, so I am definitely on board for ST2.

Hopefully, I will have a new turbo by then too .

stock evo shifts out of 4th at 114? what RPM you shifting at? and the br500 is a relatively laggy turbo as well, so i can understand the powerband issue. i can't imagine what would keep the car from running over 130 though, that is truely odd. stock ignition system??

and Jon, i can understand the "he took his friends car out thing, i just wanted him to use up one of his sessions with it, not take away in some other session. its cool though, i understand. hopefully ill be able to make it out in march with leh as my instructor, i will feel way more comfortable with him in the car than some random guy. ive done an event similar to seat-time before with an instructor, so im not a noob and i know my way around roebling pretty good after taking many laps in leh's passenger seat.

how does your event work Jon? will leh have the authority to sign me off after a few sessions? do i need some sort of paperwork showing that this isn't my first rodeo or anyhting like that?

thanks for your time, see you soon i hope

-Jeff

The only thing is why would the spool be so much later at the higher RPMs . I am getting full spool by 4300 through all the other gears. The BB has helped a lot with the spool. I leaning a little more towards the ignition or something else. When I did my closed course high speed test session, I left it in 5th and floored it from 3500rpm , the turbo was pulling hard by 43-4400 rpm. I knew the car felt funny that first morning session coming down the front straight. My only problem is that I could not diagnose it myself. I am kicking myself for not having my laptop there so I could datalog and sends some maps to David. I will learn from my mistakes. I am going to get the car to Dan today so we can start going through some possible problems. I am going to upgrade the stock ignition this week also. Thanks for the help. I was hoping for more Evos out there too Jeff. It is hard to get people off the boards and want to use there car. They will come however. Hope all is well. JonK give me a call later so we can finalize this weekends assault.

StopandTurn(David)

How was that M5 you drove at Roebling. What did you think of the car, and how it felt on the road course.

I should calrify the top of 4th gear comment, redline was 114 indicated on David Jordan's bone stock 03 when i ran it on One Lap in 2003, rev limiter would kick somewhere a little north of that, 116-117 i guess, though anytime i was hitting the rev limiter i was either a) not paying attention, or b) entering a braking zone so i didn't really have time to shift up.

For instance..
Kink at CMP, stock Evo, just after track out, rev limiter.
Turn 8 Roebling, after track out but before the end of the rumble strips, i can clip the limiter.

I have seen very similar results in the other half dozen Evos i have driven. Including Dan Klynstra's evo that i popped the intercooler hose off of with a very hard rev limit hit. the computer speedo he had indicated 104, i was confused when it hit it, found out later speedo was showing 10 mph off. (were doing 151 when showing 141) that should teach me from looking at the neato-future computer screen on the dash.

On to Seat-Time.. we work a 2 day program on the DE... "DE1" and "DE2" Very similar to Turn One Motorsports.

If you have been to other track days and are familiar with the flags and the very very basics, then i will put you right into DE2. It is then up to the in car instructor as to how ready you are to go solo based on awareness, judgement, consistancy (both in lap times and line)

Once you have the instructor for the day (an extra $50 we pretty much keep you with them for the day, till the last session or so if he feels you are ready then let you run "solo with the de group" and observe you from the outside.

I have seen a couple of students go through both levels in one day, but its rare, I see many students go through in 2 days, and a few either need more days, and some even ask that an instructor be with them again when they have been approved to go solo. (a sign of good judgement actually)

I have a bunch of FAQs and such at www.seat-time.com along with rules and procedures, or you can feel free to e-mail me or ask more questions.

How many ppl do you have at your events? Also how much track time per day do you get? I have been out with Chin Motorsports and on Sunday out of 60 cars there were about 7 running because everyone was sick of driving I got 300 track miles in 2 days. Would I get the same amount of track time with you guys?
