South Florida Dragon Pilgrimage Oct 27

I will be heading for the Dragon in October as part of my Fall vacation. As some people have expressed interest in going I would be more than happy to act as tour guide for this trip. I will NOT however be arranging things. I WILL assist those that want to go.

That being said let's take a look at where I (and maybe you) will be going...

www.tailofthedragon.com

I will be staying at Fontana Village which has cabins and lodge rooms you can stay at. Fontana Villalge also has activities for those not interested in the Dragon, so if you have kids that want to go canoeing or something you are set.

www.FontanaVillage.com

I have not figured out the schedule yet but based on my last trip I will be leaving Miami at 5:00 AM Friday October 5th, 2007 and crossing the Georgia state line at about 11:00 - 12:00. This will allow me to get a good night's sleep before an early morning run the next day.

If you decide to come on the trip you may post up here and we can arrange to meet up and ride up together. Do NOT tell me you are coming if you are not sure. 5 different people dipped on me when I went up in 2005 (That would be 100% of those that said they were coming).

I'll post again here when I have more info.

I hope this works... If not go to mapquest and do it yourself. It looks like about 325 miles. So that is 4 hours at highway speeds.

Well. as usual things got FUBARed. The pilgrimage has been delayed til October 27. So I will be going up 3 weeks later than anticipated. Good thing is my wife will get to see the trees turn colors.

Life is what happens to you while you are making plans.

I will be starting a new thread as soon as I am 100% confirmed. I don't want my supervisors making any more changes on me.

Uh you might want to keep updated on the status of the Dragon, it's all screwed up right now, here's a link to the latest: http://www.tailofthedragon.com/

I was up there in August just before things got outta hand. I used to live up there and know some locals, my advise is drive Wednesday-Friday if you can swing it, as traffic & "Johnny's" wont be too big an issue, weekends are usually semi-crowded and frustrating, just my advice.
Keep it updated if you go later, as I'm planning on heading up 1st week of November.
BTW,
If anyone is prone to motion sickness, don't even think about it!

Go by all means, you just have to time it accordingly. Oct/Nov is the best time, as temps are lower, crowds are almost non-existent and the Johnny's should be gone, and don't plan on any spirited driving on the weekends.

Well I didn't start a new thread as I almost didn't have time to go but I made it. The trip was great and the only person that caught me flying through there was Killboy. Go to Killboy.com and you can see pictures of me going around a bend on Suunday October 28. Actually there are a LOT of pictures of cars and bikes running the Dragon. Plus his picture give you an idea what the Dragon looks like if you have never been.
