suspension suggestions
I'm interested in some suspension tuning but honestly don't know what I need. Maybe someone could help with some suggestions.
I find the stock IX suspension nervous in high speed sweepers and harsh over normal rutted daily driver roads.
I was thinking about just slapping a set of MR takeoffs on the car and calling it a day but I would be interested in something better.
My reference is my 07 Carrera S. I can take high speed sweepers 10-15mph higher than with my IX with ZERO pucker factor. No drama, no tire noise, just glue and go. You can turn off the sport mode and it becomes very compliant for daily driving.
This is what I want from my EVO.
My IX currently has 255 series Nitto 555's on FN01C 17x9 wheels. I get stomped in BSP from guys with R compounds but the car is a blast at track days and circuitcross.

That's easy, because my Dad and neighbor both have carrera S's and i've been tracking with PCA for about 10 years now. Robispec Clubsports with his usual adv package. You should be waxing GT3's all day with that on R compounds - no joke. It's almost like cheating because then all the porsche owners come by and ask wtf did you did to that thing
. However if you insist on street tires - get rid of the 555's and get something like RE01R's or advan neova's or dunlop dirzza's for much better/predictable grip to compliment your new suspension.
555's with spec suspension would be like putting water in a 25 year single malt whiskey - you just don't do it for obvious reasons

BTW, you are friends with Josh and Vince/Tara, right?
Yeah, I'm friends with them. Try not to hold it against me
Well, I'm pretty confused about what suspension to choose. My only EVO reference points are my stock IX (harsch and nervous) and a buddies time attack car with ohlins (stiff and too expensive for me). That being said, there seem to be a lot of good choices. KW, DMS, etc. Several people have suggested Whiteline G4's or Cusco Zero 2's. What the best way to decide which ones suit my needs? Is there a pros and cons matrix somewhere?
So if you show up with your own coilovers. How much does Robert charge for installation and setup? Is there just a setup option? I have a lift and air tools at home and slapping coilovers on isn't difficult.

You not selling the car anymore?I would say the best thing to do is give Robert a call and tell him exactly what you are looking to get out of your car and he can tell you what setup you should go with. There is alot to setting up a suspension correctly and he can steer you in the right direction. Sway bars, bump steer kit, roll center kits, etc.
His number is on his website somewhere.
Yeah, I think I've decided to keep it. Can't find anything better for the money. I guess Vince told you I buy and sell a lot of cars. I'm a dealer and buy and sell cars to fund my racing addiction.
I spoke to Robert and he took alot of time explaining to me the pros and cons of various setups. In his opinion, KW V3 clubsports $2,800 plus his suspension setup $1,100 for a total of $3,900 would be the ticket. I forgot to ask if that included top hats or not.
Honestly, I hadn't planned to spend that much so I'm on the fence right now as to how to proceed.
If you ever wanna buy or sell a sports car (high end or not) get in touch with me.

sorry for the late reply, but as you already know when you spoke with him, the guy REALLY knows his sh*t and wouldn't steer you wrong. His KW's are made specifically for the evo 8/9 (or your model of choice as he has engineered a lot) by KW to his specifications. KW even has his logo on the bloody things if that tells you anything
Buying just any coilover off of a shelf will have what's called a "kit" or "universal" spring/compression/rebound/valving made for 10 or 20 cars regardless of drivetrain, resulting in sub-optimal handling and response. AKA, you really do get what you pay for.
What kind of place do you need? Do you need a full blown shop with a lift or will a simple garage work? I'm sure I can find a place. I'm guessing you mean May 3-4? May 3rd would work for me. May 4th is my wife's birthday, so I will not be available that day.
