Attention North Carolina natives...

First off, I know this thread should have been put in the regional forums, but I didn't wanna get flamed by some random evo idiot about selling my lancer and uprgrading to an evo...

So anyway, here goes:

I'm finally making the move to North Carolina from Guam in July- August timeframe with my lightly modified Lancer. I got a custom exhaust (still got the stock catalitics on though), RRM TB, coilovers, and an ebay intake. I'm hoping someone on here is from NC, and hopefully they can answer a few questions for me. Such as how strict are the DOT inspections, how often do they inspection for safety, smog checks, you get the idea.

Now mind you Guam IS a part of the U.S. for those of you that don't know so I don't need to get checked with U.S. Customs. At least I shouldn't. Guam is always treated as a red-headed stepchild.

So NC natives hit me up. Thanx in advance.

My wife-to-be is stationed in Fort Bragg, but is currently deployed. She says she'll be back in july or august. So that's when I'll ship out. But I'm worried about importation. Guam on many occasions, gets treated like a foreign country. And if that's the case, I may get tagged with the mods that I did. My car is lowered and is louder than stock.

So really no problems? On importation, registration, insuring, or otherwise? If that's the case I'll just figure out the rest when I get there. I'm just doing some homework in advanced so I don't get surprised by Uncle Same or Johnny Law when I bring my baby out...

I am from NC and if you car is 95 or newer it has to pass emissions testing every year along with having your car inspected every year as well so you cant have any check engine lights or anything( and the inspection can run from about $30-$60). If you want to have run a test pipe or anything like that, what a lot of people in NC do is just put the stock equipment back on for the inspection. Also if you register your car in NC you have to pay yearly property taxes on your car every January. They charge you a percentage of the vehicles value. Like for example...With my 05 Evo, I had to pay around $280 every January. It went down every year but not by much.

Anything else you want to know about moving to one of the most tax-greedy states on the east coast?

So how do you guys pass every year with a heavily modified vehicle? I planned on doing a few things to my car when I got there. I didn't feel like ripping out and putting back my mods every year.

You jusy have to make sure that it passes emissions and has no check engine light every year. I would suggest having it tuned right so the light wont come on. If not then they wont pass it. You could always just get a high flow cat. But you might just have to wait and see...

Yeah...he's got a point. Either that or you can pretty much find a shop that will pass you no matter what. There are ways around things...
