Tire sensors?

Anyone drive the whole winter without tire sensors in their winter tires (mine don't have them) and have had or not had problems with the ECU or anything? is it necessary to have them? will it ruin anything if I don't have them

They shouldn't, my dad saw the light (when we 1st got snows put on) and like freaked out and went to the dealer, the mechanic there said that its fine and the only thing that will happen is the light will go on and it will ping at you (annoying, but i can live with the money in my pockets from not getting the sensors =P )

^ If you check your tires often then you wont need them. Drove the whole summer without them and now im going to do the same during winter.

It wont damage anything without them, you will be fine.

Your dash will ping at you when you start your car then go away, but the warning light will come up when you open/close a door or start your car.

Drive around all Year long like that.....Doesn't hurt a thing. Just an annoyance. After a while, you stop paying attention anyway.

LoL, $700? Is that an estimate you got from the dealer? Just wondering is so, because that is one hella rip off. ****ing stealerships.

I got quoted around $300.

Bought new sensors for $200 from ottawatiredirect.com to go with the new winter tires and rims...dealer charges about $100 to calibrate...$700 is a big chunk of change. I'm going with the "service" light on until I can find a cheaper alternative to the dealership. And it won't hurt anything on your car...99% of the people go without TPMS system in the winter if they use different rims...just the annoying ding and light to contend with...lol.

Anytime you go to the dealer you pay 4X the price of anywhere else...rip off! Its the place to go only if you absolutely have to. I'm sure if you had of gone to my dealer they would have charged you even more...lol.
