I don't really like the looks of the mudflaps because i think they stick out way too much, but if its going to benefit my car that much, i might consider getting a set. please fill me in, thanks
well the easiest way to put it is that it protects your car from rock chips
ive uploaded a pic and highlighted the areas that you are getting more protection from having mudflaps (im not saying its perfect but having mudflaps will help protect it)

.
the reason why i got them isnt just for the rock chips, but for the salt in the winter. if you look at a lot of old cars, they like to rust RIGHT behind the front wheel, and right before the back wheel. this is because thats where most of the dirt and snow and salt is flung up into on FWD cars. you dont rust proof thats where ur car will rust. having mudflaps also makes ur car washing trip easier. i dont get those spray marks that go across the car from wheel spinning in water anymore. if you look back at the post i made just before this one, look at the 2nd last pictures the one i took at night. u cant see it very well, but i took that pictures after it rained on christmas eve, and there is no splash at all on the side of my car.

if you are wondering why there is that weird butterfly shaped splash pattern in the front, but only a triangle shaped splash pattern in the back, think of yourself riding your bike in the rain in the past. if your bike had no mudguards, the water would spray up all over ur back (or your back pack) and youd get all this nasty dirt mark on ur back. in the front its even worse, because ud get it on your croch and on your thighs. the reason why the splash damage is greater on the front is because your front wheels turn, so essentially your tires are flinging up dirt at a lot of angles, therefore theres more splash from more angles, and you get more dirt flung in more directions.

Next time you wash your car after running in a bit of mud, look at the mud splash pattern on your car, and rmb that with mudguards, it wouldnt be that extreme. i admit the mudflaps do stick out a bit and hang pretty low, but nobdy can deny that it works.

bottom line is, lancers have crappy paint jobs, so mudflaps are a no-brainer

BTW, no one even said another interesting point. During the rain or on a snowy road the person driving behind you will get a lot less of a splashes, dirt and rocks flying in their windshield. Might not matter to you but when you are in the position of that driver behind me...........

^worth mentioning that conceivably reduces the chance that you will be rear-ended
we should get an insurance deductible for putting these things on lol

no drilling needed, you simply take off a few of the pop-up screws holding in the wheelwell liner, and the replacement screws are provided. you will probably need to take off your rear wheels if you dont have an offset screwdriver, and some people needed to drill a hole into their rear liner because the screw they give you is a little bit longer... but i simply just pushed it hard and screwed it in with my hands. You will understand when you install it. overall if you know what you are doing itll only take you about 10-25 minutes per flap + the time it takes you to jack up your car, take off rear tires and put them back on.
