An interesting read. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...ml#post9164066
So I'm still curious, is it really THAT bad to have lowering spring without aftermarket shocks. I mean, I see so many people using springs only without problems, yet I'm always hearing that its not a good idea.

In general, when you use aftermarket springs you speed up the life cycle. Your risks of failure increase. But.... a very big variable is how you drive the car and on what surface you are driving over. Also like with everything else "automotive" heat plays into the equation when it comes to road surface and speed.
Long story short, you are forcing a shock to operate in a range it was not designed for.
Your best bet is to go with the coilover unless you accept the fact that you are sacrificing strut life and in most cases handling performance. Springs do not equate to better performance. Those who do Springs are generally after the solid stance look for their car. And when you look at the fender space on the lancer and ralliart. boy does our car's need it.
Coilovers don't seem necessary for my car. I find it crazy to spend that amount of money to simply lower the car an inch or two. I understand coilovers are meant to increase performance on the track, but my lancer is far from a performance car. I'm merely looking for some aesthetics but I'm not sure if those couple inches are worth having my shocks go out.
