True Reliability

I, as some of you know, am looking to get into a GSR from my North American exotic and was curious about the real reliability of the EVO. I have read many conflicting reports. Any help appreciated.

Almost 30,000km in 8 months of owning my mr sst 330/330awhp awtq..not a single problem that the car has caused. It's all about regular maintenance and not running into things to break the car . Gsr only failures I've read is master cylinders and clutches wearing from abuse.

An unmolested Evo can be reliable to a fault. A molested Evo, depends on what was done, on who did the work, on how the car was driven and maintained, and on and on. If you hear horror stories, ask questions about the car. There's close to 100% chance its owner screwed it up.

That was sort of what I'd figured and I truly do hate modded cars.

you're in the wrong forum if you hate modded cars.

I'm not a huge fan of modified cars. Should I leave, too?

Not an evo, but all the same parts, and I have it tuned up. Just passed 88,000km, completely problem free (knock on wood)

Guys my stock Vette is more than capable and I find modding, other than slight lowering, messes things up more than it helps. If people like a "slammed" look or whatever it's a personal choice.

This morning I went to drive my car for the first time in days because I was in the States. Just brushed of the snow and it started and drove without any issues.

Personally I have some occasional rattles in the interior of the car... but that's the only thing I can complain about. The car seems fine otherwise... and all the mechanical bits seem to be in working order. I've taken the car to the track and everything.

Before buying my car I was looking into reliability myself as I had no idea what EVO's were like. What I found generally is that people say the cars are mechanically good... and usually looking thru these forums you'll find that if somebody DOES have a problem with their car... it's because they did a mod which directly affects that part of the car.

Beatles... sounds like this car really is for you... hope you find one. Have you ever thought about the dual clutch transmission?

No I never even really thought about that tranny as it seems like just something else to go wrong compared to a manual.

One of our guys has nearly 190,000 miles on his lightly modded '03 and he does NOT drive it "nicely." I'd say that's pretty good.

A lot of people mod cars but they don't necessarily make it better. You should look at the episode of Top Gear where they try to make a crappy Renault lap as fast as a EVO X.

They added coil overs... big brakes... new light weight wheels and tires... stripped weight from the vehicle... added a front splitter and rear wing... etc... and it made it only a tiny bit faster than stock... and nowhere near the target EVO time.

Go drive one and see how you feel about it. I guess the manual is "simpler"... but this is 2011! Stock the dual clutch can't handle as much power as the manual... but they are developing parts for the SST.
