Test drive turns deadly with car salesman at wheel
By Dave Warner, editing by Ellen Wulfhorst | Reuters – Sat, 5 Mar, 2011 1:26 PM EST
PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - A Pennsylvania car salesman who drove 100 mph during a test drive to show his customers "how it's done" but crashed, killing one of them, faces criminal charges, police said.
Michael Hershey, 48, was expected to surrender imminently to police, defense attorney Janice Longer said on Saturday.
He is charged with vehicular homicide, driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance and recklessly endangering another person.
Police said Hershey had a blood alcohol level of .06, below the legal limit of .08, and tested positive for marijuana use.
The December 30 accident killed Jon Christian Jensen, 48, who with his son, Tyler, 20, joined Hershey in a test drive of a Mitsubishi Lancer from Imports of Lancaster County, a dealership in East Petersburg, Pennsylvania.
Tyler Jensen drove first, but Hersey took the wheel to "show you how it's done," police said the son told them.
He told police Hershey was driving at about 100 mph when a truck pulled onto the road in East Hempfield Township. Hershey hit the brakes and swerved, and the car hit an embankment and rolled into a field, the son told police.
Police said when they arrived, the elder Jensen was dead, his son was tending to him and Hershey complained of chest pains.
The Lancaster County District Attorney's office filed charges against Hershey earlier this week.

Damn :S
at the same time. I hate ppl that turn onto roads and make ppl hit the brakes or slow right down. Just last weekend my gf and I were driving and some *** pulled out right in front of us and she had to lock op the brakes
speed limit was 70. We were doing around 75 and slowed right down to about 15km
7 yrs ago I also hit a guy that didn't stop at the stop sign and cut over 2 lanes and cut right infrint of my car

never says if it was an evo or not..but the way they describe it..85-100mph takes maybe a few seconds at most..so why it took so long to hit that speed is weird probably the stock lancer.
anyways bad situation, good thing there were some survivors anyways could have been very tragic

There's another story claiming the son plans on suing the sales man for everything he has... and that he wants to make sure it never happens to anybody again. He saying how he just went for a test drive... and within minutes he changed his family's life forever.
What in the hell was the saleman even thinking???
I had some r-tard in a Merc pull out to make a right the other day, stops as I brake b/c he totally pulled halfway into my lane and another car was passing on the oncomming lane, I wait for the Merc guy to pull out ... he doesn't ... so after the car passes I go to pull around ... which is also when the Merc guy pulls further into my lane. I stop, he looks at me like I'm a retard, and finally pulls out into the lane and then pretty much cuts off a pedestrian the same way at the next intersection.
Not to blame the truck driver, because obviously the saleman shouldn't have drove the car at all in his state, but things need to be done about blind intersections and people who don't realize their car extends well beyond their windshield, or people who pull out when they obviously don't have enough space to do so safely. Also, if you're going to pull out too far at an intersection or wherever to the point that you're blocking the lane, don't stop and stare! Get out of the freak'n way!! That's one thing I never understood.
Condolences for the son and his loss.
