Oil Changes tips at dealership?

Going to get my oil change at Markham dealership~(got 3 complimentry oil change cards when I bought my car last Nov)

Had a bad experience buying my car from the sales, not too sure about the staff behind the scene.. any suggestions and tips? a bit nervous

my lancer is a 2011 GT so it's a 2.0 4b11 engine, do I need synthetic?

Synthetic YES!

What brand depends on you, Try to ensure that it is a full synthetic. I am a big user of Mobil 1 and Mobil 1 Extended performance.

If you use Synthetic then you do not have to follow the Severe schedule which dealers tend to push. Mobil 1 will likely back you with using the Normal Schedule.
Other Brands have differing policies on Normal Schedule changes.

I wouldn't bother with synthetic unless it's factory-fill. You'll just be doubling (tripling?) the cost of your oil changes for no reason.

Kracka, in Canada Dealerships push heavy on the severe oil change schedule which is taking good oil and dumping it out long before its time. Using a full synthetic on the normal schedule is acceptable but the dealer doesn't like to admit it.

Factor the cost of labour and filter and oil and I think in the long run you save money doing a synthetic run vs. conventional under the severe schedule.

Pushed heavily or not, there is no reason for the majority of Lancers to change conventional under the severe usage guidelines. Hell, I did 5k mile change intervals on my ex-wife's modified WRX with conventional oil and even after 60k miles it was running as well and making as much power as ever; with no oil consumption. They push severe intervals to increase their profits, not because it's needed.

Pushing is an understatement. Dealers invoke the "This will void your warranty" speech to press you to change your oil in the severe schedule. A lot of our GTA club members have encountered this over the years. Was the number 1 complaint in 2010 of dealers. Unfortunately this is a directive coming from Head Office in Canada and it is very difficult to argue with dealers over this manner. I myself change my own oil when I can or go to a dealer that is fine with change your oil no questions asked what ever oil you want to bring as well.

I changed my oil for about $20 dollars labour no questions asked at Scarborough Mitsubishi. They performed all other checks and fluid levels associated with the service and I left there pretty happy.

In the past a some dealerships, my girlfriend would take the car in and be pressured to use OEM filters or be lectured for not changing the oil on time (severe schedule). I think they even noted it in our file.

Even funnier I was lectured in the past against using 0w20 oil before Mitsubishi finally adopted it in 2012. sigh....

Long story short. Its up to everyone what they want to use in their car, but change your oil at the short severe interval is a waste of money. Throwing away perfectly good oil.

thans evo_soul and Kracka~ I value your opinions~

I understand my car which is not turbo charged like the RA or EVO and probably dont need synthetic.. I understand the dealership's push for schedules..

I got called and asked about then normal pricing, it seem like conventional oil and check ups are $20 and if upgrade to a synthetic it will cost around $40..

evo_soul, do u think it's ok for me to 1st use the 3 oil change cards and then switch later on?

I don't want them to void my warranty in the long run.. will going to other service shops or dealership give me problem in the future?

Tips? Make sure the dealership tightens the oil drain plug and oil fill cap. They can and do screw up the easiest things........
