Help a Brutha out

Ok here's the deal: I want to step up the perf on my evo to 375-425 whp. Should I go cams, stand alone pcm, custom tune,tb,exh? Or go turbo kit, custom tune, cams, tb exh.,clutch etc? Dollar wise what is the difference, and where will I be in the whp game? Thanks.. Peace

Basically you are asking if you should get a turbo kit or stand alone. You should get a turbo kit if hitting the HP number is your primary goal, which it sounds like it is. Then save and get an AEMS ASAP. If getting to the number isn't first on your mind then I would get the stand alone before the turbo kit.

I would say that the turbo kit needs to be the VERY last in the line of mods you do. You need to let the car beath and that starts with the down-pipe (even the o2 housing) and then that power raping cat you have (get a test pipe). next great mod is going to be cams, I have seen many evo's pick up 40-50whp with this addition alone, finally do your injectors and a stand alone and that will likely (with a custom tune) put you at close to the 375 mark you want (and over that with high octane fuel tuning) and then you will see the biggest performance gains from the turbo kit.

My $.02

I agree 100%. Upgraded turbos really need all of the supporting mods you mentioned to attain their peak performance and drivability. A turbo now would be putting the cart before the horse.

Keep in mind he said turbo kit which includes supporting mods thus "kit." I would also not recommend "just a turbo."

Gotta disagree with your idea of a kit. All the "kits" I've investigated included turbo, exhaust manifold, oil lines, cplgs., clamps, some piping and (with a few) the intake piping. I would not consider these items in the same vein as injectors, boost controllers, fuel pumps, cams and gears, upgraded ecu, etc. These are what I consider "supporting" mods. As you know better than I, these all lay the groundwork for a sucessful turbo upgrade.
