Connect it with the battery disconected. That basically resets all. LEt the car idle for 10 minutes and then go. That should yield the best result.

Some check engine conditions force the ECU to use an alternate timing map. Since this is more conservative it is unlikely that the timing box will cause trouble with that. You will have to continuously monitor the ECU's idea of fuel octane and use the timing control box to only advance timing in the regions if an only if it detects your fuel as the max possible octane.
Basically, there are 2 timing and 2 fuel maps in the ECU. If it detects some knock then it assumes you're running bad fuel and pulls timing on pretty much all of the map by interpolating between the 2 maps. It also adds extra fuel.
From what I've decoded so far the ECU does not distinguish between knocking at 4000 RPM or 6000 RPM. So if you use a timing box to advance the timing too much in one area then you'll lose power all over the range. It will also add extra fuel that further reduces your power output. UGH times 2! Just make sure you don't run a lot of extra timing. I should have some dyno graphs shortly that show the effect of adding timing on various parts of the map.
I wasn't kidding when I said the ECU is really tricky!

Is it possible for someone to post a higher res picture of where the timing control box is plugged in. Also I can't wait for more reviews to come in. I'm Canadian and it's great to here that there wasn't any problems with customs.

ok just hooked it up...i'll do my best to get a better photo...it took me a half an hour including idle time...i really didnt want to break the plug..its tricky but you'll see. BTW its amazing and i only have that and injen cai installed... Still have to install my udp, lower tie bar and ss clutchline. Just need some spare time.

I was wondering where this thread went! I was searching through the RA forums for this.... anyway yes I'm looking for a better quality picture of it as well.. should be getting mine this friday so cant wait to put it on
does anyone have any tips to get the sensor off without damaging it? I took a look at it and at first glance it didnt look like the clip like the MAF sensor and seems a little more complicated... but I could've been seeing things

This is just an observation but it seems like the RA guys are more satisfied with the timing box than the 2008+ normal lancers. Or maybe they are just more accepting and are tying the thing before bashing on it.... Like I said it's just an observation.
yes actually take a phillips screw driver up the side of the metal clip. Start at the beginning of the metal and pull up. It comes off real easy then.
Like i said took me a while but doing it again 5 minutes.
As far as the comment about being excited and more satisfied.....Simple pleasures
