AMS Drag Evo VIII to compete in the Texas Mile!
lol 30 mph at that speed is a LOT of HP!!! I don't think we will be coming close to that but we should at least better out time.
Due to Wind and Heat they are going to call it quits for today
The GT-R did a shake down run but we let off early as we have only one wide open throttle chance at it. The car needs a cage to go over 190pmh and they will only let you do that once or twice tops before they end your day. Martin did a pass up to 178 before shutting down and he said it got there FAST. We just loaded in the Mile Map with the bumped rev limiter so We should be doing a full pass tomorrow.
So the AMS EVO, Porsche and GT-R will make their next passes tomorrow. Stay tuned!

Talk about a busy two weeks!
First the AMS Drag EVO. As was stated earlier we did indeed run 228 mph and broke the existing record for the World’s Fastest Mitsubishi and possibly the 4cyl record all together (I have to look into that). The motor did indeed break a connecting rod at the end of the run. We are not sure why just yet, unfortunately the safety officials shut off the power (just doing their job) so we lost the data logs. We will be taking the engine apart once it gets back to the shop. The engine was being spun to 10,600 rpm in 4th gear to overcome a 3,000 rpm drop when shifting into 5th so it was getting worked pretty hard
Obviously a rod being thrown at 228mph can cause some problems. There was a small fire but it was put out pretty quickly and thankfully everyone was ok. I can't imagine what kind of pucker moment Eric Jones (driver) had when he saw a fire at 228mph
That will put some hair on your chest!
Taking the AMS Drag EVO to the Texas Mile was kind of a last minute decision but we did exceed our expectations by running 228 mph. We are anxious to get the car put back together. We learned a lot about a new form of racing and will definitely be faster next time.
As far as the GT-R is concerned we knew going into this that we were only going to get a couple chances at it. In order to go over 190 mph you need a roll bar, harness and fire suit. If you do not have the proper safety equipment you are only given one or two chances to go above that speed before being cut-off for the weekend.
The first pass in the GT-R resulted in 195 mph. Martin (driver) came back stating the car was running excessively rich in 5th and 6th gear which pretty much killed any acceleration in those gears. The following day Eric Jones went out to try one more time. With no hardware for tuning adjustments at the track and no way to check for boost leaks we were not optimistic but we thought we would give it one more shot before we packed up for the weekend. The car came out like a bat out of hell, spinning the tires through first and second. It was well on its way to a 200mph pass but again in 6th gear the GT-R ran rich and really hurt its acceleration. That run was clocked at a 193. At this point we were asked not to run again due to a lack of proper safety equipment.
I did talk to Martin and Eric Jones after the event and both stated that had we been able to work out the issue a 200mph pass or higher would have been very attainable. Alas that is racing and you can't win them all. Still not too shabby for a bolt on stock motor GT-R. The SR850 Package is proving to be quite the performer.
Our final entry in the Spring Texas Mile for AMS was our 2003 Porsche 996 turbo running our off the shelf AMS Billet K16 turbo package. Last year we were able to run a 191mph at the mile with a milder set-up. This year with the help of Tony at EPL tuning and some more AMS supporting mods like: fuel system, intercooler, intake and intercooler piping we upped the power a bit. On Sunday we were very pleased as we managed to run a 197.2 in our stock motor, stock framed turbo 996 This car continues to impress us with the simplicity of modifications needed to increase power.
All in all it was a good weekend for AMS and a GREAT trip to Texas. Two big events just one week apart over 1000 miles from home. With a scenario like that you try to anticipate what can go wrong but you are never fully prepared. The AMS race crew did a great job though and took two street cars and a race car and put them through their paces. You can expect us back at TX2K10 Next year and the Texas mile later on this year as well. Thank you to everyone who has been following us the past couple of weeks and thanks for all of the kind words. See you guys on the track very soon!
