Okay, I want to see pictures of you with a measuring tape measuring the cat-back piping/intermediate pipe. Just to be clear, I am not talking about the muffler tip. I trust the actual GReddy web site more than you, buddy. Get going with the pictures, pronto.

I think he may be measuring the outer diameter instead of the inner diameter.

Well here are the pictures that I have of the piping of my Greddy Ti. You can see they aren't the best pictures as I was trying to hold the pipe and take a decent picture. Obviously I failed ion that regard. I didn't get the tape measure where I wanted it to be and it is clear to see that the pipe is bigger than 3 inch and 80mm. When I had my tape over on the furtherest inside of the pipe it was a full 83mm both the mid pipe and back muffler can section. It did neck down to 3inch at the front of the mid pipe where it meets the catalytic converter(my test pipe section now).

The pictures show the tape could have moved over a good bit, but like I said I couldn't get a good hand hold. Anyway, here they are...

You can see the last picture of the mid pipe is where it necks down to just 3inch at the cat. This pipe is 50+inches long and weighs just 2 lbs, the back muffler section weighs a full 10lbs and allot of that is the big heavy stainless steel band clamp that holds the can muffler to the rear hanger.
I got my Greddy Ti off of ebay for $500, it had been in a wreck and had 3 dents which I managed to smooth out. You can see where I heated up the pipe. You can find great deals off of ebay from time to time, but I only look for brand names.
My total investment for my complete system is around $850. I purchased a helix v2 downpipe from gruppe s, beautiful piece and a full 3 inch all the way. I also got a full 3 inch stainless test pipe with built-in CEL fix for $35, purchased with the Greddy Ti. I am totally pleased with this system, it is way loud but it has grown on me. I can sense lots of instant power and the turbo spools so much quicker now. My reasoning was I wanted a system that could handle my eventual goals of 500whp, that is why I went with the Greddy Ti and a full 3inch system.

I don't see how you're getting 83mm from that pic. The tape did slide a little but it looks like it would be 8cm which is 80mm.

You don't need a titanium exhaust.

"Needing" may not be the motivation to buying one. I bought mine and love it. When paired with a cat it is not as loud as everyone makes it out to be. I cannot speak for how loud it is when running a catless midpipe but that was never my intention.

I wished I did not listen to everyone saying how loud it was and bought the exhaust from the very beginning. It would have saved me a lot of aggrevation. All is well now, I love the exhaust and it fit perfectly! I have not heard an exhaust yet that I like the sound of more and I've heard quite a few out there.

HiPower(which is what I had and am now selling),HKS Carbon-Ti, Tanabe, Bushur, Ebay, Espelir and a few others I am drawing a blank on now. HiPower/Carbon-Ti and Tanabe are my runners up from what I have heard. Plus the Tanabe fit better than the HKS. I helped my friend install his Tanabe TBE on his VIII and it was smooth sailing once the stocker was off.

WD--you can either believe me or not, I work with a tape measure daily and I can assure you that it is in-fact 83mm...but what is 3 mm's? Without a cat the exhaust is loud and yes I do agree the best sounding around, but I'm partial I guess. And while a pipe is a pipe it is my money or your money ad Don't Ever Listen to ANYONE that says you shouldn't buy what you want.....stick with what's in your head and not in someone elses. They cold be jealous or even someone that doesn't even own an EVO..
Personally, I am very satisfied with my Greddy Ti. It was the best choice for me, but that doesn't mean it should be your choice. I don't mind the loudness, but I do think the power potential(down the road) will be seen when I start modding for big power. The Greddy will fit perfectly when I power up my MR to around 500whp...maybe I can get a video clip.....for everyone to hear it in my configuration...

So the part that connects to the test pipe or cat is 3". So there will be no problem hooking up to any test pipe/cat to this exhaust?
