Question Winter Air and Tuning?

(Posted here in case others have interest)

Shiv-ites:
Winter's about to show her teeth now and it's almost time to mount the snow tires (yes, the Evo's wonderful as a winter car with the right rubber.) But this is the first winter with Stage 1. So, is there any issue with the custom tune I have now (from Andrew's Shivarama this Fall) and very cold air? I was thinking how increased air density could change the A/F ratio. But I'm just a simple country doc and wanted to ask the sages of the left coast...
Thanks,
Doug in Cincinnati

^^ Ditto.

As for tires, I will be going with the Continental Extreme Contact tires. There are probably better dedicated snow tires, but IMO we don't get enough actual snow around IL to make it worth getting dedicated snow tires. The Contis have gotten pretty good reviews for both snow and other condiditions ... guess I'll find out soon enough how they will work out.

As far as snow tires go i've been pleased with my pair of blizzaks. As long as your don't gun it off the line and don't try to drive likes it bone dry out and 95 degrees they work great.

I put on the Yokohama H-rates series tires. THey are supposedly better than Blizzak's and they fit the same specifications as our stock Evo tires. 17x8.5 They are outstanding. I used them last year. great grip, did excellent in the snow. They work fine on dry roads you just can't corner as well in them.....but they are great snow tires. spent about $1000 on them.

Are you running an XEDE or XFlash?

I'm curious about this myself since I have an XFlash custom tuned and I'm running a MBC.

Xede/Xedeflash 10.5 TH

The boost tapers as normal throughout the RPM range. In 5th though it holds 24 for a few seconds before tapering off as normal. I only observe this though when going WOT in the 4th and 5th gears. When accelerating from 1st up, it hits about 22-23 for a sec or two.

It was hitting about the same boost though the day being tuned. Noticed it on the drive home. Sounds and runs solid.

Wink

ALRIGHTY THEN, LET'S TRY AND GET THIS PUPPY BACK ON COURSE....

Those that have a problem at californian temps or at baseline, start your own thread.

Those curious about winter rubber, I chose Blizzak LM22 as high quality snow/ice with sports handling. If I didn't want the handling, I'd go with classic blizzaks. I put them on the stock wheels and put the Advans on SR22's, which look great and are strong enough for Cincinnati roads. They served well last winter and had good performance on the occasional dry days warm enough for traction. Good in rain, too. Neal@tirerack.com is enormously helpful and a car feak, too.

NOW , the question was whether arctic air is a problem with a Vishnu tuned car. Specs, if useful, Stage 1 with xflash custom tuned at Dyno4mance with installation of boost bleeder.

So, with denser air, will I have a problem with Air/Fuel ratio, boost pressure, or anything?

Thanks, all.

If you had a stand-alone ECU, I'd say yes. But you don't. So you have nothing to worry about. Temp compensations are still in effect and totally capable of keeping things in order.

Happy Happy, Joy Joy

And, until I get a chance to put everything down, for the non-fanatic who wants a fast Evo: Stage 1 Vishnu, ss brakelines, and rear swaybar.
Priceless.
