trying to decide could use some help please
I am trying to decide which one I want to do to my Evo. I am having a hard time deciding between the Aem Ems or the Exede i know they are diffrent as i have researched them both. but my concern is the tuning in the Aem, while i would eventually like to be able to tune it myself, mainly i would get it professionally tuned and forget about it until i upgraded. the exede makes it seems like i can just download a new map. can you guys help me with the pros and cons of each of the two systems?
thanks and look forward to a good discusion

Go with the Xede from Vishnu all the way. Vishnu has excellent maps for download if you follow their stages and are unable to meet with them for a custom tune. AEM has too many glitches so far and not too many people can tune them properly.

Generally my advice to folks asking this question is:
- if you're gonna turn your Evo into a dedicated racecar, go AEM EMS
- if it's a daily driver, go with the XEDE
I'm not a tuner by any stretch of the imagination, yet with the XEDE I have been able to successfully change the level of tune on my Evo on several occasions:
- originally was tuned for 91 octane at high altitude
- got back to chicago and, after getting all of the 91 craptane out of my gastank, filled up with 93 and uploaded the 93 Octane stage 1 map off Vishnu's website. Did a couple of runs while monitoring my wideband O2 meter and was done.
- will be modifying my boost settings this weekend to account for the colder weather
It was all very easy to do. If you're comfortable using a PC, using the XMAP software to upload maps is a no-brainer. That, along with the fact that it is fairly easy to get a map for your level of modification and the fact that the XEDE works with the stock ECU instead of replacing it makes the choice an easy one IMO.
The AEM is great to really fine tune a car (especially extremely modified cars), but I don't think it is as flexible as a XEDE/stock ECU combo when it comes to dealing with a wide variety of conditions - such as you would find on a daily driver.

I agree with Ludikraut based on past experience with the AEM EMS. It is a major headache unless you have acess to a profesisonal tuner. The "download a map" capability offered with the Xede is a beautiful, beautiful, thing. I went through a great deal of grief getting an EMS tuned, and the car running right. Race car only IMHO.
