Virtual Tune

It occurred to me the other day, as I was wondering if Shiv were coming out to Colorado any time soon, that it would be great if we could get a custom tune over the internet. I figured that all that would be necessary would be a computer that could be remote controlled over the internet and that could both display the tuning software as well as dyno results. There are many products out there such as GoToMyPC that could perform this function.

This would mean that Shiv could tune our cars without travel, exhaust fumes, or manual labor and he could even do it in his PJs.

Is this feasible and would this be of interest to anyone?

I actually thought this was an interesting idea.
Is there any reason why it wouldn't work?

GoToMyPC is a desktop streaming software (Like WebX or PC Anywhere) that runs over the same port as your web browser. This means no firewall config to get it working -- Easy. All you would need to do is find a dyno with internet. -- There is shop that has internet and a 4 wheel dyno within 10 miles of my house.

I am sure that there are enough local people out here in CO to organize a day or even half day if this is possible.

cool idea but i think there are some things that are harder to do remotely such as listen for knock etc.

it's not a bad idea and for most tunes it would probably work, but the latency involved would create some serious problems for being able to react quickly to sudden lean conditions, knock, etc.... I know if I was Shiv, I would not want to risk that.

I think its totally do-able in most applications. Totally possible for anything short of big hp Stg 3 tuning. With a good dyno (one that displays in realtime like the DD dyno), one can see knock activity before it is heard.

Just make sure you have a good network connection. Lag (latency) could cause some issues as far as seeing the realtime data. It would definitely be do-able as far as being able to remotely connect to a laptop that is plugged into the XEDE and modifying the tables, etc. for a custom tune. If you end up doing this type of remote tuning, I'd consider getting a dedicated line (read: T-1 or fractional T-1) as long as you get enough business to pay for it.

I am very interested in this. I want to talk to my local shop that has the dyno and see what they say. It could end up being more a little expensive. You would have to pay for dyno time, and also pay for Shiv's expert tuning. I want to run it by my local shop to see what they say. What would you charge for something like that Shiv?

I just talked to my show guy and he wants nothing to do with it. I guess I will have to wait till Shiv comes back to turbo trix.

Well. Shiv can call TT here east and see if they will let us do it and will have a test dyno day. Since he knows them well and most east dyno runs are there they might accept the idea. I use PC anywhere and gotomy PC as well I see no reason not to be able to do it. I work from home everyday and I love it. Come on Shiv just try it PLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
