GT35r vs Greened STI
GT35r vs Greened STI
Some of u may know me and my sick and twisted familys problem with speed...for those that don't:
I own/race a Vishnu Stage 2 STI( fp green/exhuast/xede)....thats gone 11.8 at 116 with 342 WHP..and now makes 372 WHP
(intercooler upgrade) with more on the way
My older brother EVotomig has a Vishnu tuned EVO with a GT35R kit plus all the extras(full Vishnu stage 1++ kit)...his car makes 410 WHP on his 100 octane street map, 470 on race gas...
Our family has a problem with speed u could say.
For the last week I've borrowed his EVO and have put some miles on her...here are a few things i've noticed....
EVO better:
Seats
Headlights
Steering
More rear seat room
Shifter action/feel
With the gt35r kits the EVOs powertrain is much like sport bike..TOP END KICK.......versus my STIs which feels more like a nicely tuned small block 383.
The way the cars deliver speed and the sensations u experience is wayyyy different.
Just some impressions i've had....since its pretty rare a hardcore subby guy drives a hardcore EVO.
Now i want both

My friend just installed his utec, green, headers and full exhaust. I have vishnu stage 2 and and we went racing last night for some time.
I cant tell you what happened but you can guess
BTW he has your setup except the FMIC.

On race gas is where the Big turbos like 3037/gt35s shine

Where i made 372hp, those cars make 420-470

I would of liked to push the handling limits of the EVo...but as EVOtomigs car only has springs as the sole handling upgrade and the tires are well worn/plus that fact i don't own the car...i'd best play it safe.
My STI has Prodrive springs/Cusco bars/bushnigs/chasis lock bolts, so i may have a wee bit advantage around corners..

Its not about size and on top all that the EVO engine is way better than the STI. I drive my friends STI every day (its like mine) and he just bought load of parts and I installed all of them. However, I love the STI brakes feel (pads) and I love the STi tranny other than that its like a BMW comparing to my EVO. I dont feel its a true race car.
What I'm curious about is the lag question between the GT35 and the 3037S ?? Some places I have seen that the GT35 is suppose to spoil same as the 3037 but other write ups I read it is way to laggy ??

Race with the same types of fuel in both cars and he'll absolutely blow your doors off.
The STi with a green is very sweet, but a Stg 3 Evo with a Ballistics 3037S or a GT35R is just going to be a lot faster.
The 2005 STi is a whole lot nicer than the 2004 as far as handling and control goes. The 2004 STi feels nervous and scary at times. I'm sure this can be easily corrected with well chosen suspension upgrades.
As far as the Evo vs. STi thing, it really depends what you like...
The STi gearbox is a lot stronger, but its ratios absolutely suck after 4th gear. Just below 100mph, the car falls into a crater that is very hard to climb out of. From rolling speeds cruising in 5th, it isn't bad. From a first gear WOT acceleration through the gears, it just lays down on the 4-5 upshift. This is really evident by the wicked 1/8th mile times and traps these cars lay down, but comparatively lackluster 14 times on the same slip. Don't get me wrong, the STi comes out of the hole like no other, but its just like the WRX in that it has two overdrive gears. The Evo 4th is a lot better, but it also falls on its face on the 4-5 upshift. Fortunataly in an XEDEflashed car, this isn't going to be a factor until 125mph.
Fit and finish and quality of interior materials completely goes to the STi. There is no comparison. That car is a heck of a value for what you get. The Evo looks very silly in comparison. The gauges and driver position in the STi completely rock.
Another thing that sucks about the Evo is Mitsubishi itself. I like Subaru's full line a whole lot more- much better quality vehicles. The Evo is the only redeeming automobile that Mitsu produces.
The Evo is a more focused track star than the STi, though. Even with a slight power handicap, it hasn't had any trouble hurting the STi's feelings in all motorsport events. This is due to a lot of reasons, but the chassis of the Evo is just better IMO. So it kind of shifts the discussion to what you want: A comfortable car that shines on the track or an awesome track car this is not quite as plush? For me, performance always wins the day. I loved my WRX, and even though the STi is infinitely superior to my old 2002 WRX in every way, there is no way I'd take an STi over an Evo.
The Evo wins on the hardware front, too. The 4G63, although .5 liter less in displacement, will just plain out-power the EJ257. EJs are knocky, and on 93 octane, you can procure a lot more power out of a 4G63. Of course, they even up more on race fuel, though. The turbocharger, intercooler and injectors on the Evo have so much more potential for power improvement than the STi units, its pathetic.
In the end, it really is a toss up for what you want out of a car.

Thanks for the post, Mark, and the kind words. I'm sure you'll let me borrow the STI once it's been "reworked".
As has been said many times, both are great cars in their own respects.
Got to give props to Subaru for starting it all w/ the WRX; otherwise Mitsu would have never got off their **** and exported the EVO to the States.
BTW Mark
Get rid of that yuppie Benz and get an MR instead.
I got the STI Wagon to complement the EVO.

On 91 octane CA gas ...i would lose, but not by him blowin my doors off.
with better gas i would most certainly be his Biatch.
I've heard alot about the stock EVO-STI comparos already...I think its better to get two bad A$$ cars put some $$ into mods, and then see how they stack up
