Rough Stage Zero+ idle
Rough Stage Zero+ idle
I finally got round to installing both my XEDE and my 3" high flow cat this weekend and thought everything was peachy until I ran the car a few times. My idle
quality has basically disappeared. I haven't disturbed the idle adjustment screw, all the vacuum connections seem tight to me, everything checks out.
I do however, have a Walbro fuel pump and I did notice the car is smelling extremely rich. I pulled my plugs but I also noticed black exhaust smoke on throttle blips. The smell is partially down to the higher flowing cat.
While it was warming up it threw a P0506 (low idle speed) CEL which I cleared and after it warmed up it idled "ok" but still pretty lumpy. I adjusted the low load/RPM fuel zones a tad but it didn't seem to clean up at all. It's gone dark now and I'm too tired to mess with it further but does anyone have any suggestions or a suitably tweaked map I can try?
The mods that matter...
Helix downpipe, 3" Helix high flow CAT and CAT back, MR BOV (not that that'd make any difference but hey
), XEDE, Walbro 255lph fuel pump
I've checked all connections and everything checks out so if anybody has any suggestions I'd love to hear em.
Cheers

After a bit of discussion I was wondering if a problem with the boost control solenoid line could cause this overfueling? I did notice a small manufacturing defect in the line (looked like a bubble in the silicone that left a small pocket) before removing the restrictor pill, but it didn't penetrate the line to a point that would allow it to leak.
I've also discounted the Walbro as the stock FPR can easily hold the static fuel pressure that it provides. I'm going to check my vacuum connections again, see if that helps and finally remove the XEDE and see what happens with the stock ECU. Again, if anyone has any input I'd be grateful for it.

Not likely to be the boost solenoid....more likely to be a large leak in the pressure circuit..
This would explain overfueling, rough idle and more....check turbo nozzle, IC hoses, IC damage....also check turbo intake hose, blowoff valve hose clamps.....

All fixed!
After 10 minutes on the phone with Dustin and disconnecting the XEDE boost control the car ran perfectly (albeit with stock boost control). Basically in my haste to get everything installed I misread the install instructions

That image is the one that screwed me, basically I had the plug the wrong way up (serrated side is up) and unplugged the wrong green wire
Car runs like a champ now - I'll not be in such a rush in future (most unlike me). Thanks to Andrew @ Dyno4mance, Dustin and I think Shiv who I spoke to earlier - and to David for giving me a call. I feel like such an amateur
Now to get some fresh plugs in the car cos they're all fouled up.
Cheers!

Help, Did the same thing with lasting negative results.
Did you notice any cold start problems when you had the wrong green wire hooked up? I too in my excitment did the same thing as you when I installed my Xede and after about 30 minutes realized what i had done. I then hooked up the correct green wire and all was good except. Till this day I still have the cold start problem and an idle under load problem. I have brought the car to the dealer on 4 seperate occasions trying to remedy my faux pas and have had no joy. 3 IAC motors and one new ECU later i still have the same problem. I recently sent an e-mail to Shiv about my problem but have not heard back from him. My car has been this way for about 9 months now.
I know I know, talk about a long time before speaking up. I just figured it would be something easy to fix so I didn't worry about it. I also work overseas alot, as I am now, and just haven't had time to bring it in. But now i am ready for my car to idle like it should. Can anyone from Vishnu contact me to discuss. i would call but i am out of the country at the moment.
Any assistance would greatly be appreciated.

Yes, it wouldn't idle worth a crap until it had warmed up, and even then it was settling around 500rpm which was way low. It idles completely like stock now, better even I would say after I got the boost control the right way. My idle is around 850 - 900rpm, dipping slightly when I turn on the AC, but it's a lot more stable than when it was stock.
