Weird noise under Stock Air Box? (Xede)

I have weird sputtering noise near the stock airbox. I remove stock airbox and remove boost soleniod and the problem went away. Also checked boost lines and they are fine. Car drives good with boost hitting 21-22 than tapering to 18 at redline on 91. I have stage 1 with Xede.

Has anyone heard this noise or know what it could be?

You need to tune your radio to a station.......

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Check your intercooler/intercooler tubes. They might have a small leak but still hold boost.

Reminds me of the thread from the guy in Germany who had a rodent chew through the silicone intercooler tube.......

For the record we did not remove it but just unplugged it. He started his car and it stopped making noises. We plugged it back in and it started making noises again. I also checked the hoses connected to the solenoid and they looked fine (not broken/torn). Any more input?

You may have a bad boost solenoid? Swap it out with a borrowed one and see if it still does it.

That is what I was thinking but the car runs great and boost works like a charm. If the Solenoid is bad then why is my car running great and holding boost correctly?

I've had this one... Be sure your boost duty is set at 100% across the lowest row in the Xede graph. This should fix the clicking noise...

Try this for me.

With Xmap, go to the boost table. In the bottom two rows of the boost table, change the 100s to zeros.

If the clicking stops, chances are you just have a noisey boost solenoid. Its not an uncommon problem on evos.

Yeah took me a while to figure this one out too. You only need to have the bottom row of the boost table to be zero's.

You'll need to know if you're using an "absolute" or "intercept" model for boost control. If the numbers on the "unknown" graph are around 90% to 100% then you're using the former and the bottom row should be at 100%. If the numbers in the graph are smaller (5%-20%) then you are using the latter and the bottom row should be set at 0%.

Following this rule will keep the solenoid from having to work (click) during idle.

Good luck!

You are correct since I flipped the switch to my 93 map and no clicking. I have to fix my current 91 map Thanks for the help
