Whoa! -5/-5 is generally used for the stock camshafts. I can't even guess at what that would do to 272's (Ted B might, though ). The most common settings are -3/-3 or -4/-1 ... there are several threads on this - one of them right here on the Vishnu forum - that explain the pros and cons of various settings. FWIW, I run -4/-1 on my 272's, great top end power, idles like stock.

Also, now that I think of it, if you have the Vishnu camgears, make sure that they were lined up correctly. TDC is not the 0 mark (again check the threads here on the Vishnu forum, this has also been discussed). It sounds to me like whoever did your camgear/camshaft install didn't RTFM, so I'd double check everything...

yes but depending on if he is using vishnu's gears would the settings be totally different since a -4,-1 on vishnu gears would not be the exact same on a standard installed set of gears.

No, -4/-1 on the Vishnu gears is the same as -4/-1 on any other set of adjustable gears. The only difference in the Vishnu gears lies in the fact that TDC is not directly above the 0 mark on the cam adjustment dials (which confuses some installers), instead TDC is (at least on my set of gears) on the marked tooth.

depends, if your cams gears weren't installed with TDC 1 tooth to the right, like they were supposed to be, -5,-5 would actually be more advanced than they should be.
