sitting on the fence...

Looking to go stage 2 or stage 3 prior to dyno4mance dyno day, not sure which.

I'm looking at the TME turbo: http://linux.forcedperformance.net/m...ode=Lancer_EVO, but woulld like to know about any potentially better options

This car will primarily be used for track days and autox-car needs to spool quick.

Any advice from the road race crowd? I need to get it right the first time

Thanks!

If you want autocross-like fast spool, you need to stay with your stock turbo or get the TME 16G turbo. I got mine through Dyno4mance.com; it was a little less expensive than forced performance for the same turbo IIRC. That's a stage 1++

A Stage 3 is absolutely wicked, but a big jump in price. While it would be a demon on a roadcourse, it will definitely spool later than a 16G.

Stage 2 isn't a good option, IMO. Either get the TME turbo or go all the way with the big sucker.

I plan to do the stage upgrade and turbo at the same time to take advantage of the tuning op.

Maybe I need to do a stage 3 with the TME instead of the big 35?

I think you're a little confused on stage numbers:
Stage 1 is downpipe, xede, xedeflash, cam gears, fuel pump
Stage 1+ adds cams
Stage 1++ adds TME turbo and intercooler if you want one
_____________________________________________
If you want to go beyond the stages above, you have to add an aftermarket clutch, head studs, and injectors in addition to what is below-

Stage 2 is a 3071 turbo or the less expensive 3037 turbo

Stage 3 is the Garrett 3037S turbo or GT35R turbo with the custom manifold

Stage 3 as listed on new site:
Stage Three (v550)
Includes:
Garret GT Turbocharger System XFlash Reprogrammed ECU XEDE Engine Control Computer 680cc/min Fuel Injectors
Signature Series 3” Cat-Back Exhaust
Signature Series 3-inch Down-Pipe with Test-Pipe
Pre-Set Adjustable Camshaft Gears
HKS Camshafts
Upgraded Fuel Pump

Performance:
0-60mph in 3.1 seconds
Standing ¼ mile in 11.2 seconds at 126mph

Installation difficulty:
Intermediate

Estimated Installation Time:
8-12
TME subbed for the GT35 gets the combination that I had in mind. TME shouldn't require a larger FMIC or clutch, should it? Head studs need to be done anyway.

If your running stock clutch now, with the GT35R theres no telling how long it will last, yes upgrade. As far as the FMIC is concerned, you will want to upgrade that too. You dont want to half step, but at higher boost levels you will need the bigger front mount unless you do alky/water injection. If this car is for the track I dont know if I would use that turbo, maybe the 3037 would be a better choice. Good luck , hope it turns out well. Keep us updated on what you choose.

Even if you have upgraded injectors, the TME is still a 16G and bolts right up. That's why its still a Stage 1+++. These other turbos are externally gated and require a bit of special fabrication to fit. Even with all those other mods, the 16G is nowhere near in the output league of the GT35R, but it spools much faster.

So what I'm saying is that the staged numbers don't increase beyond 1+++ until you opt for a big turbo.

What about 3037 or 3071 instead?

3037 rocks, 3071 kinda sucks IMO. Neither spools as fast as a 16G, though.

I say trade some spool for the top end power of a big turbo!

We have modified two so far...one had 428 DD WHP and the other 400 DD WHP

Here is the link to our Mitsubishi dyno page

They are sitting around the middle of the page

FWIW, everyone always talks about lag. I looked at the graph for the 428whp 3037 and the 293whp stock turbo graphs and both cars hit 200whp at around 4500rpms. just to show you that lag is waaay over-rated
