Reading a cam gear
Ok, I have just finished reading 2 hours worth of threads on this subject I can't seem to find how to read the dash marks on the cam gear. I currently have a stage1 set-up so the cam gears should be set at -5/-5 correct? An I know there is a 2 at each end, but having read a few of the threads here it still doesn't mak sense. How do I know how many dash marks to rotate the cam gears to -4/-1 for the 272's I'm putting in today? In other words how many degrees is each dash mark?
Anyone's input would be greatly appreciated here. Thanks.

There should be 24 degrees marked on your gears with a prominent center line...
On most gears it will show 12 degrees range to retard and 12 degrees to advance with the center line in the middle.....

Dyno4mance,
Thanks fo the response. So when I am looking at the Vishnu cam gears and I want to retard my cams to -4/-1, I would leave the Vishnu cam gear red dot at the TDC mark on the valve cover, loosen the 5 fasteners on the cam gear, rotate the cam to the middle marking (between +12 and -12), then rotate the cam so that I am 4 degrees to the left of the middle mark for the intake cam and 1 degree to the left of the middle mark on the exhaust cam? Does this sound right?

Thanks for the confirmation Andrew. I have the cams set at -4/-1.5. The car seems to stumble a bit though. I am going to try and dial in that last half of a degree on the exhaust cam and double check my Vishnu MAPs. Anything else that could be causing this thing to stumble when idling? My buddy seemed to think that it was just to be expeted becuase of the cams, but I thought this was supposed to make the car idle like stock?
