STI needs clutch...what should i be looking for? Exedy?

Stock clutch has been punished for 34,000 miles. Today the darn thing started slipping wherever i really got on it. Ive been looking at Exedy clutches. I know a few of you have them, are they noisy? How do they hold up to daily driving and also track days?

anyone has any suggestions?

Welcome to the "stock clutch gave up the ghost" club! We recently replaced mine a few weeks ago. What clutches are available for your car, Rich? A lot of Evo guys really like the Exedy twin and swear by it. One thing is for certain, you'll wanna get that rectified before you retune, or you'll slip like mad on the dyno.

I went the budget route and got the ACT. It has a pretty stiff pedal, and uses an Exedy disk. It performs great.

I just droped my car off at Subaru for the 30,000 mile service. (new plugs, coolant, brake fluid, oil change etc) I think im going with a Subaru upgraded STi clutch. Its $750 and made by Exedy from what i understand.

What does it mean when they say " my jutter under partial engagement"

I'm assuming you meant to say "may jutter..."

This is just another word for chatter, it's the feeling of quick grab/slip/grab/slip common in heavy duty clutches that have little or no marcel spring between the disk faces. On a clutch disk there are two engagement faces, one that interfaces with the pressure plate, another that interfaces with the flywheel. On a standard street clutch there is a marcel spring between these two faces, if you look at the edge of the disk you can see it, it looks like a very thin wavy potatoe chip. This spring essentially makes the clutch disk compressible when the PP clamps down. This compressibility, albeit small (50 thousandths at most), helps remove the chatter when you engage your clutch. However, this compressibility also increases the travel necessary for the clutch to completely clamp down increasing engagement time. Most high performance clutches remove this spring. It introduces chatter when slowly slipping the clutch, but it speeds up engagement when you engage the clutch quickly and increases the wear life of the disk since more of the PP's travel can be used on wearing down the clutch and not compressing that spring. This is also why old street clutches can chatter, that spring wears out and no longer does it's job.

HTH!!

I'm going to preface this by saying don't believe everything you read on forums--but don't ignore everything either.
