Car and Driver Review of Stage 1+

What do you guys think of April 05 Car and Driver's review of the Stage 1+??

I have been reading C&D for 20 years and like the mag, but felt their review wasn't fair to Vishnu. Basically weak stock clutch and a poor installation. Not sure about the limp mode issue though.

By the way, I love my Vishnu parts!!

what do they expect to happen to a clutch when every man that drives the car dumps it at 7k rpm? my stock one only lasted 13k miles.

well they were biased from the beginning. The clutch can handle it, O2 should have been welded on and limp mode (shrugs). I forgot, did they mention what kind of dyno? 202 #'s sounds like a mustang dyno. They dynoed at 282 for those who didn't read the article.

Agreed. Expecting the stock clutch to hold 100 extra hp and survive drag strip testing is stupid.

the stock clutch will hold 400 hp... providing that you dont launch the car... thats what kills it the slipping.

Here is what Shiv said in another post

However, I wasn't aware that anyone, other than myself, tried to tune the XEDE. Oh well, you can't win them all

We'll be back in C&D Supertuner shootout later this year (3rd year in a row) and we hope to redeam ourselves

Despite having problems it still ran a 12.7@109 1/4 (0-60 4.1) on Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 tires which C&D said couldn't match the grip of the Advans. Also they mentioned a new exhaust housing....errr 10.5 hotside?

Yeah, that writeup kinda pissed me off. Its not Vishnu's fault that their guy couldn't tune the XEDE properly and that the O2 sensor kept backing out. 12.7@109 kinda sucks too.. Bad tune.

I wrote a e-mail to C&D letting them know what idiots they are. I think all of us should send at e-mail to C&D letting them know how happy we are with our parts and how ignorant they are.

I have had only one other company make after market parts that worked as well as Vishnu. It was APR parts on my A4. Vishnu really makes top quality parts.

Coming from the true King clutch killer himself. The twin Cusco/Exedy won't last very long under heavy street racing abuse from what I hear.
