Newbie with Stage 1 question.
Hello everyone,
My name is Brandon and I live in the So. Cal. High Desert. I have a 2004 yellow Evo VIII that I bought brand new last Sept. It now has 9,300 miles and needs a clutch. It needs a little more get up and go, and I am seriously looking into the Vishnu stage 1, but I have a question about the drive train. I see that you guys are running tons of horse power through these things and I think it's awsome. My question is will the stock drive train withstand the power that the stage one produces? If not, what do I need to do? I plan on putting the ACT stage 1 in it with an aluminum flywheel, unless you guys have a better suggestion. I would appreciate all the advise you guys have to offer. Thanks in advance.

Evo Inferno,
First, don't spend your hard earned cash on a new clutch unless you are absolutely certain you stock one is dead (ie, your engine revs up when it shouldn't - when you are in gear). The stock clutch can easily handle a stage 1 set up.
No problems with the drivetrain at all. The ACT with Fidanza flywheel is a good affordable way to go. Have either Road Race Engineering or Tuning Technologies choose the exact ACT clutch AND put it in for you. RRE is booked at the moment with Quaife front LSD installs, so you may have to wait a bit longer for an appointment from them.
Many of the Vishnu faithful have been having really good luck with the Cusco Twin disk. It cost about 1500 though, which is about $600 extra. Still, the ACT is fine. Good luck.

If your clutch is gone then you should replace it. I have a pretty strong Stage 1++ with the stock clutch and its holding up just fine. So far I have 15000 miles, but I don't really launch my car that much.
Just think of the old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. My dealer says it's the clutch, I even took the mechanic for a ride. When I attempt to accelerate in 4th or 5th gear the engine revs up then drops back down before it will accelerate. This sounds like what your talking about smogrunner, am I correct.

same symptoms mine showed after 4k, I believe strongly that it was just beat to hell too hard at the drag strip, I probably overheated the pressure plate or something because when I installed my exedy twin my stocker looked like it had a ways to go yet, but it just didn't hold the power (stock car) so the friction disc was warped ****ty or the pressure plate was shot, either way I drove it for a while and it didn't go away, sometimes they say you can glaze ur disc and it will act like it's shot, but then after a several miles you can break it in again, who knows, I would say that if it's been slipping for a while, and not getting any better... she's a gonner... but you know how that goes... exedy twins are great...

Put some butter on it. Your clutch is TOAST. Let us know what you decide to put on there before commiting to buying it, so we can pester you with suggestions and advice.
The plan for now is an ACT stage 1 and the streetlite flywheel. Thats not a definate. I'm open for your suggestions. I'm going to put the Vishnu stage 1 in it for the time being and build on that when the fun wears off (probably 6 months or so!!). Thanks again for all of your advise.
