Quik cam ???

Well I have my HKS 264/272 set-up sitting here waiting to be installed.
I have been putting it off because I was waiting to get the Vishnu cam gears.
To make a long story short, I'm gonna be on a tight budget for at least several months so the gears are gonna have to wait.

Will it be OK to install the cams with the stock gears as far as drivability is concerned. Also how much performance will I be sacraficing?

FWIW...My only other mods are Vishnu standard TB and an xede. so I guess its a 0+ as it is. What map should I run if I do decide to install the cams. Any advice is appreciated, especially from those who are running or have ran a similar set-up.

Thanks,
Jason

I think there is a way to retard the belt by one tooth on the stock cam gears. It gives the same effect as if you had adjustable ones.

Give Andrew a call www.dyno4mance.com he should be able to help you out!

Retarding the cams by intentionally installing the belt one tooth off is the equivalent of setting your cam gears at -7.5, far more than anyone recommends. Will it hurt, no (I did it for many miles without knowing it), will it hurt performance when compared to properly timed cams... absolutely. Mine were off a tooth and set at -2/-2 which really meant -9.5/-9.5. Car was dynoed a couple of times this way and run for several thousand miles with no peoblems except peak performance was down 25 HP and 25 lb/ft TQ compared to the desired -2/-2 setting.

Can you run the cams without adjustable camgears? Absolutely, I am doing it now as I await delivery of a replacement gearset. Only downside is that the power is down some (maybe 10-12 HP/TQ from the -2/-2 setting.

Thanks for the input jfh.
I talked to Andrew at Dyno4mance awhile ago and he set me straight.

BTW..those have to be the coolest people ever at that shop. I've never bought a thing from them and Andrew went above and beyond in the advice department for the cam install.

Looks like I'll be driving to Georgia for my dynotune.

Thanks again.
